  • The link to the original article isn't working for me. I'd like to read it, but I definitely don't want to buy Time Out ever, even more so after hearing about this. Anyone have an updated link? Or just want to copy and paste the text? ;)
Article is too long to paste here. This works for me.

  • Ah, it was just chrome that doesn't like it, it opens fine in (t)rusty ol' IE. After seeing so many people railing against this and reading his other articles, I was expecting a lot worse I have to say.

  • Thanks by the way

  • ^ I think he has mellowed since his previous offenses.

  • He could still do with a kick in the perineum, though

  • Oh yes.

  • Please see attached .pdf regarding the reply Alex sent in in response to the Time Out article that was previously discussed. Her reply was actually published.

  • Well done! missmouse

  • Nice one missmouse +rep

... and lucky Mr Hodges who I hope will take up the offer from both Missmouse and Jane davis to buddy him to help him overcome his fear (Poor man)

  • ha, brilliant work Alex! Love it.

  • LCC is holding a Campaigners Conference on Saturday 8 September, 9.30am-4pm at London's South Bank University (near Elephant & Castle).

This is an opportunity to tell LCC what direction you think they should be going in with their campaigns and help decide LCC's future campaigns for 2013 and for the crucially important local elections in 2014.

If you're interested in attending this event, which will be followed by drinks in a nearby pub, register here: http://lcc.org.uk/events/campaign-conference

  • If anyone here is interested in finding out what Southwark Cycists do in our meetings, and are prepared to push your 'nodders in DayGlo' assumptions aside, why not come along to our AGM on 10 October? We do have fun as well as discussing the serious stuff.

I have arranged a special treat for us too. **We will be having the meeting at the GLA!
    **
It'll be in Committee Room 3 on the Lower Ground Floor from 6-8pm latest. Park in the bike racks outside.

    Many thanks,
    MM

  • Is anyone on here going to LCC's Campaigners Conference tomorrow? http://lcc.org.uk/articles/campaigners-conference-on-8-september

    Should be a good day.

  • I made a little film on seeing some lads in my neighbourhood playing street football. Watched for around an hour. One car came by. I paid them £20 to let me film (on condition they kept the ball up for at least 20 touches, which they did).

There is a modal filter on the street so drivers can access their homes but no good for rat running. We need more of these across London.

What can you get for £20? - YouTube

  • Playing football in the street? Whatever next?

  • Best to avoid riding down streets where people are playing footie in the road, it might well antagonise them.

  • Not sure where best to report this - a general roads updates thread would be good but I'm always a bit afraid of starting new threads :)

Weston Street, Southwark, is closed until nearly Christmas for what Network Rail calls "minor works" and there is a pedestrian, but no cycle route along St Thomas Street. If it is indeed meant to be shared, there is no signage to that effect.

This closure isn't technically part of the planned project in the area so presumably they felt no need to make an effort for these 10 weeks...a bit annoying considering how much input we have already given them.

Interesting. This is precisely why we took Southwark Councillors to Hackney recently so that Oliver Schick and team could show us all how effective these filters are in creating quiet, pleasant spaces.

We are pushing to make these more widespread across Southwark and in fact I am attending an event in Liverpool Grove tomorrow if anyone wants to pop along...I'll be in charge of the LCC's smoothie bike...:)

  • BBC London 94.9 is doing a phone in right now what would make cycling safer in London.

Someone just suggested building routes in parallel with the rail network.

Why not call in to have your say - I call in too often!

  • Early Day Motion 407

I'm a bit worried that this is turning in to a blog rather than a discussion, but this is important...

Please encourage your local MPs to support EDM 407 ‘Victims of road accidents’.

  • London Cycling Design Standards

Is there a thread about this document somewhere? I can't find it.

I've only just looked at it after reading some of the Go Dutch stuff. It seems to me ... well, a little bit crap TBH, for all its complicated detail it still talks about "15mph cycling design speeds" and "these types of roundabouts are OK for cyclists" - who are they thinking of exactly, the CTC out for a ride?

Maybe I'm being unfair from a quick flick through, but it just seems weird that something so "all-encompassing" exists yet rubbish is still built. I went to visit a relation in LB Sutton and the nearby cycle track across a playing field ends in .... a set of steps!!. If they followed their "CRISP procedure" there they must have asked for a packet of dogshit flavour.

  • The LCDS were never very good and there have only been a few improvements over the years. Not many campaigners actively consider them. I wouldn't worry too much about them. The best thing is to gain experience in working on traffic schemes from actual traffic engineers rather than learn from low-level guidance like the LCDS.

  • For those interested - Have your say about Camberwell Green!

As discussed above, large amount of funding has been made available to improve Camberwell Green and the Council want to know what residents and visitors like. Please fill in the online questionnaire by tomorrow 5 October 2012.

  • If this has been posted earlier, than please forgive me, but take a look:
