my amateur method is an aluminium pan and a whisk.works quite well. I wouldn't call it micro foam but give it a try before you spend any money. warm the milk, stick your finger in to check temperature and when it's about right turn the heat off and give it a good beating with the whisk as though you were making a meringue.
I can picture bombcup dying a little inside as I type this but together with my stovetop, porlex and monmouth beans it makes a perfectly decent start to the day
