It's a standard British threads Shimano UN54.
I have no idea how it could have happened - The non-drive side cup had become recessed into the BB shell, and the drive side extended by 3mm - 4mm and once I removed the cranks, I could remove it by hand.
I thought that there might be stripped threads, but they were all clean, and the BB shell clear of any crap.

I've been reading up on Sheldons bible for bottom bracket clicks. It clicks once on 1 pedal rotation
Quote from Sheldon's site:
Bottom Bracket Cups/Retaining Rings Loose? Because of the threading of normal bottom brackets, the cups are self-tightening to a point. This sometimes leads to careless installation, particularly on the right (fixed cup) side. If the right cup is slightly loose, it won't necessarily unscrew itself, but it won't really tighten itself up fully either. The symptom of this is an occasional creak or clunk usually as the left crank goes "over the top" when pedaling hard. This is a surprisingly common, and frequently missed, casue of unwanted noises. Generally you should check the items above first, because they're easier to deal with. You can't reliably check the tightness of the bottom bracket mounting without removing the cranks, but sometimes you can diagnose it this way:
Turn the cranks so that the left crank is alongside the seat tube, wrap both hands around the crank and seat tube ans squeeze the crank hard toward the seat tube. Then turn the cranks so that the right crank is alongside the seat tube and repeat this. Listen for a creak/clickIt does sound like the above, it clicks when my left foot is pedaling down, and I'm pedaling hard (not while cruising)
My question is how do I resolve this issue?

Remove cranks, remove BB.
Reinstall BB, reinstall cranks.

Remove cranks, remove BB.
Clean BB threads and tapers and re-grease threads (assuming alloy BB cups)
Reinstall BB, reinstall cranks, to correct torque
ftfy
Also, check chainring bolts are tight while you're at it

Will do!
Looking to replace my bottom bracket soon to be honest, the off the shelf BB supplied isn't the best.
Anyone have any idea what BB size fits the Fuji track 2011? -
• #982
Try tightening the pedals onto the cranks too. I did the whole bottom bracket thing (including taking apart a pair of sealed bearings) before figuring out it was the pedals. It's a really easy one to fix as well. (FYI, left hand pedal has a "left hand" thread).

Gonna go to the work shop today and take my bike apart i reckon, give it a good clean over
-
• #984
The bottom bracket that come with the Fuji are shit, we end up having to replaced them even after a week worth of riding at work.

They aren't that bad. I had the standard fuji BB in my 2009 track until march this year. ridden every day through rain and snow etc...
I did once have an intermittent click and first off it was the BB that needed tightening, then it was the cranks, then eventually the chainring bolts needed attention. Just general regular maintenance really. Be careful tightening the non drive side BB cup/retaining sleeve thing as (in my case) it was plastic and stripped and cracked.
In the end I just replaced the whole cranks/BB with a SRAM s3000 and external BB. Much better.

Hello,
So i noticed a tic toc sort of sound from my bb area on my Dolan, do i need to replace my bb already? only been in there for about 5 months! Usually its more of a knocking sound from the bb when i come across bikes with knackered bb's, but this is a different sound, I'm using Stronglight Sealed Bottom Bracket and Stronglight Track 2000 crankset, both from Velosolo.
I will read through the thread later, but if any one has any ideas that would be great.

check all bolts, tighten anything that's a bit loose.
-
• #988
and swap the pedals, the little bearings often make a tick rather than a knock
-
• #989
And do check for glaringly obvious things you might not have noticed, that's one of the most useful pieces of advice you'll get.
A year or so back I thought for a while my pedal threads were fucked, but it turned out to be my shoelace tinging on a bottle cage.

Okay ill give my bike a check up tomorrow and try changing pedals to.
I checked the bolt for the crank set and the chain ring bolts a few weeks ago and 1 of the bolts just snapped off, a bit worrying!

Had a service about 2 months ago and my chain replaced. Since then, had an incredibly irritating 'clacking' from my rear cog at mid->high speeds.
Initial thoughts were chain tension being too high but, given it's slacked a little since being replaced and is still persisting, I'm at a loss.
Any help or ideas greatly appreciated, I want my silent drivetrain back

Did they put a 1/8 chain on a 3/32 cog & chainring setup?
-
• #993
It's a 1/8 chainring setup. Probably should have mentioned that, sorry. Thanks for taking a look though.
Going to try adjusting the tension today when the cycling is finished. At a loss really so might as well start with the simple stuff

• #994
How long had the old chain been on?
If for a very long time the teeth on the cog would've worn with it, meaning new chain wouldn't sit on the worn teeth quite properly.
Other than that, check the joining link particularly, but all chain links for damage, or damage to a tooth on cog / chainring.
Can't think of much more than that! Good luck.

Thanks, appreciate the help. New chain had been on for about 4 months, teeth are a little worn but the chainring isnt bent or skewed from what I can tell. Will whip the chain off today, clean, lube and inspect for damage then re-tension it

Turns out the chain was damaged
-
• #997
Oh well, best discovered than have it possibly fail on you when out riding.

So the noise on my Dolan was sorted, I took off the pedals off and put them back on again, just cleaned and greased the threads, used a proper/longer pedal spanner to put them back on, no more noises, no idea what i did to stop it but it worked.
but noww.... my girlfriends new bike has a very loud 'clack' sort of sound when she pedals, i could hear it from like 30 metres away, maybe a broken bearing or something?
-
• #999
Possibly a busted bottom bracket or loose cranks (my guess is cranks),You can try an isolate the sound by spinning the pedals whilst holding the bike of the ground.

Sorted it, wasn't the bb this time either, just swapped the rear wheel and there's no noises at all.
I spun the old wheel when it was off the bike and the bearings sound like a cement mixer.
Not british thread then? I thought british would try to tighten itself under bearing movements if it was loose.
