  • do not sticker it. This is a proper racing bike we're talking about, not some hipster sled. Treat with respect please.

The only time that Specialized was an artisan crafted frame was back in the late 70's when they first start making the Allez in Japan.

    They were build by 3Rensho.

  • hawt

  • if you're gonna sticker it only WAC stickers are permitted.

  • ahhh, the cunster… happy days indeed

  • Would be fantastic to have that frame professionally respray with the style of that sticker.

  • I'm getting my new TT bike done that way. How did you know?

  • hahaha loving the banter already. id love to get it properly re-sprayed, but where does carbon??

shot blasting is out, i hear only acetone and really light grain sandpaper is ok, an even then you have to be super careful.....

anyone got any experience of stripping a carbon frame properly? or know of any professional services offered?

garrett chows bike makes me weak at the knees.

    as for the cunster, well....

  • Painting carbon frames is pretty easy compared to steel/alu. I've done two, as well as a couple of aluminium and steel ones.
You don't need to strip the old paint first, unless you are obsessed about weight and extra 100g or so of paint... Stripping a carbon frame is a right PITA.

Oh shut the fuck up ed

  • It's a mass produced Specialized, not some artisan crafted frame!

    Mondeo

  • mondeo
    st220

  • I prefer to think of my S-Works as more of a Cosworth :)

  • Scoble fucking nerrged...

  • S-Works Tarmac as used by awesome people has never hampered any of the pros using it.

  • got the chainset for 130, shifters for 250, both brakes for 85

things are coming together quite nicely!

excited to see how much faster il be with gears, after having only ridden fixed gear for 4 1/2 years.

thanks for the advice hoops! what kind of paint did you use?

  • dura ace?

  • colour was cellulose mixed up by myself.
Lacquer was a 2-pack product called Ultra-Clear, in two layers, with a colour sand between each layer.

  • does it come in black? ;)

  • sram red

shit the bed, I turned down an allez that looked exactly like that (was wearing late 70s shimano 600 stuff) as I thought they were pretty bogo, does being built by the 3rensho guys make it worth dollar?

I think the link between spesh and ford is probably quite accurate! They make perfectly decent proper bikes, and some of which are very nice, and generally competitively priced, yeah their biggest seller is probably the lower powered people carrier with no optional extra's on it, but they also make focus ST/RS 5pot turbos' in them

  • The very first Allez were made by 3Ren. But later they where mass produced by Japanese makers such as Nishiki or Miyata etc.

  • frame has arrived, now to sand it and paint it.....

progress shots shall be posted tonight :)

  • Pics plz.

Ideally in its present state, but wait until you've started so we can all tell you what a mistake you've made ;)

I think someone might have mentioned it, but quite a few people with experience recommend painting ontop of the existing paint rather than stripping it all the way back first.

  • Yep.
