  • In spite of a spectacular logistical fuckup involving me thinking EE was 27th August I think Breakfast at Tricity's should still be OK Go. I'm not entirely sure whether I'm EEing, but I will probably be at my parents' even if I'm not.

having had to duck out of the DD this year due to the Olympic rehearsals, I'm all over this.

if anyone is in Bristol during the day I'll be doing the Bath cycle path with some friends. highlights include swimming in the river half way, sprints in the abandonded railway tunnel and crazy golf at the end.

It's my first overnight. I'm excited. I need to get out of London more.

  • Yay Cupcakes! It'll be my 2nd overnight but hopefully first without a disgusting stomach bug...

  • How much water do you carry for something like this, and do you expect to be able to refill bottles during the ride ?

  • I will be taking around 750ml as thats the size of my bottle... I don't know if there are any refill points like with the dynamo. But as it's overnight water intake can be minimised so shouldn't be a problem. I reckon the best bet would be a 24hr garage somewhere along the route...

edit: Their forum suggests some scouts are opening a tea stop somewhere along the way, so refills should be possible there, but no guarantees!

  • Anyone who would like a free breakfast post-ride is very welcome at my parents' house on Exmouth Rd EX9. Can PM address details to anyone interested, though I'm likely to be mostly out of email contact after next week until 2nd August.

  • I take two 500ml bottles for the ride. There's a food stop at around the 55mi mark where you can top up.

There is a tea stop in cheddar gorge but I don't think they'll be carrying water for you to top up your bottles with. The last two times I've been they had cake, fruit and an urn for tea.

  • Having helped run the tea stops for a few years I can confirm you can indeed top up at North Curry, and we do have water available at Cheddar or Luppit - just ask if you need any.

This year we might be using the scout hut in Cheddar instead of stopping in the Gorge itself (any changes will be marked on the route sheet).

The Luppit stop will also be setting up early so hopefully there will be tea/coffee/water/cake for any faster riders this year.

Look forward to seeing everyone there, I'm having a year off from tea organisation so I can ride it :P

  • Oh dear. Just realized that there's only 2weks to go. I'm rather unprepared but I'm sure it'll be fine

  • I'm rather unprepared but I'm sure it'll be fine

    Ditto...

  • The route recce took place yesterday so the revised route sheet and gpx stuff will be available on to the Exodus website in a day or so.

We've made quite a few updates to so please don't use an old route sheet or old gpx track.

The Cheddar tea stop will definitely be at the Cheddar Scouts' hut instead of the Gorge. There will be tea, cake water and - luxury of luxuries - toilets.

  • What's anyone planning for this? I've somewhere to be on the Sunday, so wouldn't mind starting a bit early / cracking on through. Certainly fancy being finished by 6am. Anyone got experience from previous years of what the general pace tends to be?

  • I did DD in 12 hours, and Tour de Latitude in 13:30 hours... I think I am giong to have a lonely ride.

  • Depends how fast you want to ride. Plenty of groups going along at different speeds. Usually the ones that leave the pub first are taking a gentler pace. I leave around 9/9:30 which lands me on the beach at about 7-8am

  • but if you can keep up with 6pt and TricityBendix, you can get there around 3

  • Bugger that. Tie a noose around 6pt and hang on to him, you might get there for 4 then

  • It's my first overnight. I'm excited. I need to get out of London more.

So I'm probably under-prepared for this; anyone got any key tips (other than bring food, bring drink, bring a rain jacket and something warm for the early morning hours, bring tools and tubes etc).

  • ^ Very little chance of my keeping up with those two I'm afraid. Especially if they are tandem-powered.

  • I'm booked on the 13:30 Sunday from Exeter, so as long as I can get into Exmouth before 10:00 then all good. I did the dynamo in about 10 to 11 hours, would hope to do this in about the same...

Don't panic and take too much! There is a food stop as mentioned above. Spare tubes and some tools to get a wheel/tyre off is usually plenty. On the Dynamo it was very much the case of just flagging someone down with the correct tool.

  • Oh, if youre going, I think it would be advisable to let them know for the food stops.

    register

The one thing that was annoying on the DD was continually arriving at stops and not having enough food and drink there. Im just grateful I had guiness at all the open pubs along the way.

  • Hairnetnic, sounds like you have the pace I could enjoy.

You may not know that im near by though as im like a ninja in the night.

  • I haven't planned a thing for this. Until yesterday I thought the monday was a bank holiday - turns out that's only in Scotland... fail.

I have no idea about pace.

What I do know is that I will be taking food, after my 85 mile ride on sunday with no food and very limited water. I may jettison tools to make more space for food. Whatever, I'm sure I can fix a puncture with a nutrigrain wrapper...
