  • Common question I guess, I'm thinking about buying a second hand laptop and I'm after some advice.

I've just got a netbook at the moment, and while I love it, the size is just a bit too much of a pain sometimes.

    Use: **

    • Internet.
    • Music.
    • A bit of iplayer-type stuff.
    • No games, ever.
    • Word processing.

    Wants:

    • Relatively light.
    • Relatively thin (ideally very)
    • Sensible sized screen 14/15" (I'd guess).
    • Cheap.
    • Not an HP.
    • Not a Sony.
    • Not too slow.

    Do not need

    • Disc drive.
    • Huge amounts of storage/hard drive (at least I don't think I do?)

My dad has a Samsung x420 which I really like because it's got good battery life and it's fairly light and slim... plus it seems to be good quality. So I am looking at those at the moment.

Does anyone have any other recommendations of similar laptops?

Is there anything that I should look out for when buying that I might not obviously think of or ask?

    Cheers.

Also I've got an oldish but decent at the time spec HP with a burnt graphics card that will always burn because of it's location. Does anyone have any use for it, or any suggestions on what to do with it?
