  • I think the most important factors are your brain and physiology. People go on and on about the effects of tiny changes, but being confident on your bike and learning how to make the most of it are almost ignored. Longer stems allow for shorter wheelbases with the same contact points and are hence theoretically better for reaching around, but it depends on your style the opposite doesn't seem to hamper Luca.

    Brake 'modulation' waffle does my head in too. It's not like my brain'/fingers alternate between 'gentle tomato testing' and 'larynx crushing' modes. My fingers are infinitely variable in their power and do a great deal of modulating.

    I know there are differences between brake types and brands of brakes, but people take it a bit too far when they imply some brakes have no modulation.
