Make sure the bead of the tyre is squeezed down into the channel in the rim.
The flimsier the tyre the easier it is to do this/the more likely the bead is to stay there once you put it there. Marathons are pretty heavy duty so it takes a bit of wrangling but once you get the bead in the channel they'll go on and off as easily as any other tyre will on that rim.
I have some crappy wheels with wide rims and I am trying to get of some marathon plus tyres (25c). With a wide rim and a tire that's about as thick as wayne rooney I am having a massive issue getting the bugger off. After snapping 2 tyre levers trying to lift the bead, I ask is there any unorthodox methods of getting them off? If not... I will throw money at it and take it to my lbs
