I would like to see the original interview - seems like an odd thing to say at this point. Plus, it's apparently been translated from Italian, to French, to English, so may have lost some subtlety.

Froome had the opportunity to sign an alternative contract last year, he chose SKY and assume he knew what to expect. Worrying that the girlfriend is some kind of footballers wife, bring back the days of Anquetil.

this, he chose to stay with sky of course...
Truth is, would Rogers, Porte, Boasson Hagen and Cavendish all be willing to put themselves at the service of Froome? What has he done to earn that? Is there any evidence he could deal with the pressure? Is he pretty much totally untested? How much stronger is he than Wiggins (given the time he dropped in the prologue and TT)?
We'll never know as long as he's kept on a leash in the mountains, so the team captain will also never know if he's made the right decision
Willing? Team orders...
Pressure? Just shout 'c*nts' now & then ;-)

Froome is positioning himself to be team leader at the vuelta, and possibly the giro next year, and if it's as big climb obsessed as people seem to believe it will be the tour next year.
I'm assuming there is a certain amount of lost in translation going on here as well. But I think there's more being made out of it than there actually is. Yes he's stronger than brad in the mountains, yes he can time trial, but this tour is about Brad winning it. He's being paid big money to help him achieve that. And will be paid big money to win tours in the future.
Team orders are team orders, and you have to subjugate personal ambition to that, unless wiggins blows up and the mantle falls onto his shoulders...

Professional sport is all about contracts and doing what you're paid for, not being the best you can be
ftfy.
It's their job.

This Froome affair, together the brilliant article on the Guardian, has suddenly turned me into a Wiggins fan. Didn't expect that! I'm already looking forward to seeing Froome show his amazing skillz against Contador, preferably with Michelle Cound commentary :)

Corney, read @michellecound tweets. Nothing lost in translation there.

I wonder if she has a bee in her bonnet as she isn't the official Team Sky photog?

CliveO read some of her tweets, and I've decided to ignore them, its not about her, she's not riding the tour, and she's not the one whose signed the contract, so her opinions and witterings mean little to me...

I didn't read the tweets and came to the same conclusion.

While I would like to agree with you, I have a horrid feeling that she wears the trousers in the Froome household and could be the undoing of Froome.
Peta Todd and Cath Wiggins' tweets about cycling are always good to read. Pity she can't learn from them.

Cav is looking good today. Good sign for the Olympics.

Wonderif we're going to have a Roche/Visentini situation develop next week. Seems to be what Cound is hoping for re. African rider winning on the 18th. Wiggins to crack, Froome to take advantage with SKY unable to chase and time trial the following day to consolidate. Froome to then go elsewhere. Just a thought.

Sanchez cannot shake off Sagan... Wow. He'll take his 4th stage if he can hang on

I agree... as his girlfriend, people are bound to gravitate to her for opinion and she's just stirring up shit. Froome needs to tell her to shove a sock in it - she isn't helping him no matter what his goals are.

Sagan is blowing my mind on this climb! What a hero. Hope he can keep it up for the win, he deserves it!

God it must be shit being a lowly domestique.
"Come here, quick, give us your wheel...you can get another one later"
Then you just stand there wondering whether it's all worth it.
