Here's another one: lose 5kg of fat or gain 5kg of muscle? Light weight isn't everything.
I think this only matters when you are very close to your lowest ideal weight. I was ill in Jan, and couldn't eat properly for 3 weeks - I lost over a stone, I thought I would be weak when I got back to riding as I would mostly lose muscle. In actual fact, losing that weight made me fly, comparing my time on climbs then vs now (have gained 0.5 of it back) I can see that clearly.
Wish I could do it again (without all the pain, vomiting etc obviously!)... but I think this only applies because I'm a bigger guy with a long way to go until I hit my ideal weight.
