You are right in some respects I think, the owner did indeed have two bikes, in identical colour schemes actually. The other was a rather beautiful standard geometry track frame, and lovely at that.
All of the information I have provided was told to me from the original owner, and I see no reason to doubt it especially. The owner told me he used this for pursuit on the track in conjunction with his matching track frame. I'm sure it was used for time trials also, interestingly enough the owner supplied me with a photograph of Matt Bottrill riding this exact frame pictured in cycling weekly in 95. If you are interested I would happily pass it on to you.
But yes, perhaps I used the wrong word to describe it, and time trial would have been more appropriate.
