I am not debating the fixed freestyle, just dont get sticking to fixed on this new generation of bikes with low saddles, fat tyres, stronger frames, trick specific low gearing etc.

Because fixed is amazing?

It may be different, and I may not particularly like these 24" fgfs bikes, but as long as its fixed, then its fgfs :)
And its fun. I would feel for these reasons:
Its really fresh, so even shit riders aren't that bad relatively, but the best riders are looking pretty sick now.It's a different challenge from BMX;
It's fun. AND THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT ONE.
I fucking love it. More than Sunny D.

I don't get why no-one's designed a two way freecoaster yet.
If you know how (most) freecoasters work with the lump that moves towards the driveside to engage with the hub shell and create drive and away from it to allow coasting then I'm sure you can imagine (as I do) that it might be possible to make a hub where the lump moves towards driveside to drive forwards, away to allow coasting, then away more/towards the other side to create drive in the opposite direction. This would allow backwards tricks/braking by resisting the pedals and all the stuff that is impossible/extremely difficult without a freewheel.

As in coasting backwards?
I think they already have. -
• #508
yeah they have. I remember watching a video on how the mechanics of it worked!
-
• #509
I haven't seen one since about 2003/4 though.

No no, coasting backwards has been about since forever.
Freecoaster hubs evolved from coaster brake hubs where the cog is attached via a big thread to a lump of metal inside the hubshell.
When the pedals are turned forwards the lump is pulled along the big thread towards the driveside (right) and engages with the hub shell and creates forward drive. When the pedals are not being turned the lump unscrews a bit, moving away from the drive side (left), disengaging from the hub shell. In this state the hub can coast backwards or forwards.
When the pedals are turned backwards the lump moves further left and engages with a brake mechanism (it's pretty complicated and I'm not 100% sure how the brake works so I won't try and explain in any more detail, suffice to say, the arm that attaches onto the chainstay is part of this mechanism).
Freecoasters do away with the brake part of the whole thing and you are left with a hub which either drives forward or coasts in either direction.
I'm saying that in place of the brake mechanism you just make the lump engage with the other side of the hub shell and drive the wheel/bike backwards.

This is a freecoaster
"CLUTCH W-275-03" is the lump of metal inside the hub shell and "W-275-04 DRIVER 12 / W-275-04 DRIVER 13" is the cog and big thread which pulls the clutch or lump to the right to engage with the hub shell "SHELL".
I couldn't find as understandable an illustration of a coaster brake hub but there's this
You just have to imagine the hubshell in there.
Get rid of the brake shoes and brake arm and just have the clutch engage with the hubshel again and you'd have backwards drive.

So exactly the same as backwards coasting hubs? A few Bmxers I know had this before.
-
• #513
Are you fucking dim? I'm know free coasting is nothing new. I'm saying you could adapt the free coaster design to provide forward or reverse drive.

You might aswell ride fixed then.

how about we get back to posting nice bikes instead of bitching.

Unless you want to coast.

But coasting is such an overrated experience.

purdy! fit for a superhero
Here's mine (work in progress)
Just got into riding fixed so picked up this Plug Freestyle from eBay to learn with.
In the procces of turning it into a FGFS.Changes I've made so far:
NS Quark Pro Stem
NS Mint bars (cut down to 630mm from 710mm)
NS Aerial Pedals
700 x 38C Tyres (originals were 28c)
ebay Straps
Charge Scissor Forks (next month)Really enjoying fixed so far. Was a bit odd at first but slowly getting used to it.
I've kept a front brake on for emergencies. For some reason bicyles are invisible to people in Leeds! -

Has he painted his entire bike silver without removing a single component?

The drops are incredible, especially considering he fails them all and still hops back up.
