  • I can do tyres, do bb(new bearings and grease)

    Brake pads
Take apart and fit back together
    Build from box
    Replace bb
    Replace chain
    Replace Front derailer and rear
Replace handle bar tape/pedals most small stuff.

    Convert from gear to fixie
    Re spray bike.

  • 6 months ago you were asking some very naive questions about bikes and your local bike shop ripped you off and did some really bad work on your bike.

I would strongly suggest you get some proper training before you offer your services to other people.

From your list of services it appears you are not ready to do gears, which is one of the things that people frequently find problematic.

Not much of bike maintenance is rocket science, but it would be useful to ensure you have a reasonable knowledge base before you begin.

Yes but I have learnt a lot since then:)

  • Would any of you let me fix your bikes?

    No.

  • Lol I new someone would say no!

Well if anyone does want things done to their bikes I'll be happy to do it first time for free the just a little money after.

    Let me know.

  • If you are up for coming to the Hackney Bikeworkshop http://hackneybikeworkshop.com/ we would love to have you come along as we are always looking for new volunteers and you will get a lot of experience.

Another suggestion I have is most of the local LCC groups do Dr Bike sessions which are good for learning the basics thoroughly because you have to take on all comers so you get good at making quick descisions and coming up with noval ways of doing things.

Another good person to talk to is Therese who is now a mechanic at Look Mum No Hands she has worked at a lot of bike shops and set one up herself at Hackney City Farm.

    Zebs

  • Thank you I'll try and check that out.:)

  • GR - I remember you're based somewhere near me. There is a stunningly unhelpful bikeshop in Potters Bar so you may well be able to pick up some business in the area, though there is a second bikeshop that is yet to open in the town too. It has been 'soon to open' for approaching a year now.

Look into becoming a sole trader carefully and get the appropriate insurance, the general public can be incredibly stupid so make sure you're covered. I'd sign up to one of these workshop things even if you're not up for the full qualification right now, as DJ said you did ask some fairly n00b questions a while back.

I have no idea of the number of bikes I've built and repaired, be it for friends or myself, but I'd be wary of charging for jobs, though I do accept payment in mojitos.

Whatever you choose to do, best of luck to you.

    This.
