  • friction shifter on DT, and drops.

    I've tried a few different ones (used & 'nos' 600, and a little used 7200 DA friction shifter), I tightened one up to the point it split the plastic ring (lever could not be moved without mole grips to increase the effective lever) and still it auto-shifted.

    Seen/used other steel friction shifted bikes and yeah it happens but not as bad as this. I blame the BB shell/cable routing arrangement; the cable guide sits on top and really far outboard on the shell in a way so that the flexing of the shell from the BB axle has most lever against the cable. I.E. worst case scenario.

    I was thinking moving the cable to be under the shell instead might improve things too, though an outer firmly affixed to extra D/T band on + adjuster barrel is my next port of call.
