Please tell me I'm not being mercenary - I am aching to go down, but what with work just now, it's tough. I would in a way rather wait until he is more awake - even though it is killing me being so far away just now
Is that sensible? I mean I might just get in the way right now?
Trust me you're doing the right thing. When in ICU i see people sitting by bedsides for days on end with someone who is sedated, not looking after themselves, only to be ill themselves when their loved one wakes up and needs the support.
Get everything sorted work-wise etc, rest up and make sure you're tip top for when he's awake and will really appreciate people around. Its completely normal to feel this way!

2010 Tweed Run. Jason was so sweet towards me during the recce's as my dog was very very ill and I was really upset about it.
Eightball, I know I'm repeating myself but please, don't feel bad - wait until Jason can enjoy seeing you. Three people at a bedside is more than enough imho. Stay strong.
And heal up mf!

My thoughts are with Jason, and his family. I can only echo what everyone else has said.
I love how this community rallies around their own in times of distress and need. Forum love at it's best. Thank you Dimi3 for your classifieds post linking to this thread, and thank you Eightball for keeping us updated.

By the sounds of things a notebook of messages is more realistic than a card, the biggest card for sale in the world couldn't hold the well wishes we would gather in a week. If a book for messages is going on tour I'm happy to do leg work any night this week 'cept Wednesday. And I could collect from Easts late in the evening and take to Wests. PM if there's already something in progress and I can help with logistics.
P.S. HTFU *mf

I haven't been on the forum for a week or so, so I'm a bit late to this, but really sorry to hear the news. I hope everything goes well and MF is back rolling again soon!
Best wishes!

One of my closest friends had a similar injury this last NYE after being struck my a car (ped not bike). He was under sedation to calm him down for about a month, but happily he is almost completely back to normal now..
Jason I only know you through the forum and more specifically the House Music thread. You have opened my ears to some really great music over the last few years on there. It's one of my favourite threads thanks to you. Losing your input would be a great loss to this place so I hope you make a full recovery as soon as possible, mate.

Thanks everyone for continued messages of support and positive vibes.
Jason is having some issues I think dealing with what has happened. They are keeping him on minimum sedation and pain relief. When he is not sedated, he is lashing out verbally and physically - this is quite common I think, as his emotional response will be pretty basic - swearing and other 'anti-social' behaviour is deep rooted and not dependent on the upper brain. That's not to say that the doc's are saying he is brain damaged. Apparently he has had a CT scan (CAT scan perhaps, sorry I forget) and it's clear which is great news, but speaking to a friend with more medical knowledge than me last night, I was reassured that recent traumatic brain injuries (TBI) often produce these episodes, and more often than not it all gets better.
Couple that with Jason's natural strong will and you've got a pissed off bloke who doesn't quite know where he is yet and why he is there, and he wants to get up and go!
That's all I have for the time being, I'll keep this thread updated as and when I can. Please spare a thought also for Helen, Jason's ex-GF, who is trying her hardest to keep things together for him, whilst also being a full-time teacher.

Thanks eightball. This is better news. I think you are right to wsit till jason can benefit from your presence. What more could happen to help helen do you think?

Skydancer - I'm not sure. I think visits from forumengers just now are probably not the best idea, given that Jason might not even respond or recognise people, or I would have said people assisting in that way. I'll have a think though - cheers
