O rly? An awful lot of the stress of rider weight is definitely going through the seatstays.

It's a leaf spring where other people have put an elastomer/coil/air spring. If it's strong enough, it won't provide any worthwhile travel. Whether it's strong enough or not, it will provide no damping. There's several times as much suspension travel in the tyres over what is feasible from that spring. I'm thinking anti, for that and the fugly head tube.
