Loved that vid^^, but not sure if he is borderline genius, or mad as a bag of monkeys.
I don't care either, as you gotta love what he is doing....

has anyone seen him and obree in the same room ?

Graeme Obree's bike doesn't 'work'. It's Graeme who does all the work.

It doesn't matter what sort of bike he rides. He might as well ride on thin air. He'd still break records.

I can't quite get my head around how he's going to ride this. Could someone draw in the parts that might be missing please?
He's suggesting that the "drive" will be at the back end somewhere, so assume he is going to fit something akin to a BB axle near the rear which will then drive the chainset further in front.

Looks like he's got a large flywheel attached to the cassette so I'm thinking he might go for a V shaped drive train.
I'd hazard a guess that he's going to have a single crankset on a 1 inch BB mounted to just above the rear wheel that will drive the flywheel. The cassette will drive a sprocket on the rear wheel with a likely overall initial starting ratio of around 2:1 and work up through to maybe 6:1.
Difficult to work out the GI here but I think it goes a little something like this;
((pedal chainring/flywheel) x (cassette ring/sprocket)) x wheel size.
Math geeks to confirm please.

There was a diagram of that bike showing the massive chainring in the middle and the crank on the back, not sure where I've seen this.

He is a genius and mad at the same time. Good look to him though i have always admired his enthusiasm. i think he may be running with a fairing over the bike too.
I tell you what though i wouldn't like to get in a speed wobble on that thing at 80+mph.

Hahahahaha.
Well fast!

• #37
that looks twitchy as fuck. Hope it gets more stable at speed.

I thought it would be a more 'normal' pedalling arrangement, rather than this weird lever setup.
Not something I'd like to be learning to ride around London, that's for sure! Go Graeme!

he is quite high off the ground which might create a bigger frontal area
than other record vehicles where the rider is between the wheels on his back.
I think some even have to use a video camera to be able to see forward.
will the skin use some special surface texture like the one inspired by
shark skin? it has been used on experimental planes and can reduce
drag lot.
cant wait to see the final thing. -
