Tour de france epicness

Is it just me or shoud they just skip the first stages of the modern tdf?
I've been watching loads of classic tour de france and giro documentaries lately and keep finding them way more interesting than what's happening in cycling at the moment...

I grew up as little kid (i'm only 21) running around in italy with a bandana on my head wishing i was pantani. Living in belgium eddy merckx was bigger than the pope... Later on i learned about legends like Coppi, Bartali and Anquetil. Anquetil's unique style and his very strict athletic regimen of steak tartare and beers probably made him one of the most epic cyclists for me.

Anyway, let's go down memory lane, who are your favorite classic cyclists and why? Like anquetil doing the double double, pantani killing it in '98, merckx riding away at 90K from the finish line time after time and killing everyone... Or what are your favorite bikes from tour history? Gimondi's bianchi is probably one of my dream bikes.

I liked it when Mark Wiggins won the Tour of the World and beat Australia by two-nill!

i bet his mum was livid, "those stains'll never come out, and i just knitted it"

"However, Christophe was not at first pleased to wear the yellow jersey as he complained that the spectator laughed and told him that he looked like a canary." this definately counts as epicness.
