You want a souvenir now that the stench of doom is too thick to ignore?

Huh?

RIM are going to hell in a handbasket very rapidly, if you believe the press.
Profits are down 43% against this time last year, they've just announced that they are making 5,000 employees redundant, and the share price is steadily eroding.

Someone will buy them for the Enterprise software business I reckon, and then flog the hardware part to one of the usual suspects.

So what would this mean for the playbook?

Very good question.
What do you want it for?
It's a current production model, so in terms of future development you'd hope it will be upgradable to the Blackberry 10 OS when it's released next year.

RIM are not going to go boom over night, but one of the reasons that they are in so much trouble is that they have failed to innovate in the face of Android and iOS/Apple encroaching on their core business.
That said I've never used a Playbook- might be awesome. You did need to pair it with a Blackberry handset to get email, without an associated Blackberry the Playbook was effectively stateless as I recall.
I think they changed that though? Worth checking anyway- it was designed to complement a standard Blackberry handset, not replace it.

I have a playbook (not for sale tho). It is a decent enough tablet. Pairesd with a blackberry it works well to read emails etc, struggles with large files. Non-skype compatible which is a shame. Takes an awful long time to boot up and the 7' screen has been criticised for being too small.
Perfect for a bit of web browsing, video and arsing about though. Price had fallen massively at retailers. I got mine on ebay with a load of freebies - the standard charger takes an age to recharge it, but there is a quick one.
Oh no usb slots so no garmins etc. That is rubbish...

I'd just pre-order one of these:

I liked the look of the play book because it was small and compact. the ipad and nexus look too small and fragile.

I use lots of tablet everyday at work and the play book.... is awful

Get the Nexus. They're the same size, Nexus is significantly better spec.
Android isn't going away. RIM are going nowhere. -

I do actually have a play book for sale - 16gb version.
Comes with a couple of cases, one with an integrated bluetooth keyboard. Also got the fast charging dock as well.
On eBay at the moment, but would happily take it off...
as above
