Raleigh equipe conversion

  • Hey guys,

I'm looking to convert my old Raleigh Equipe to a single speed, I've stripped it of everything thus far cept the cranks and bottom bracket.

I was wondering if anyone knew what size bottom bracket and cranks I should use? I suck at that stuff.
If you could link me that would be amazing. Trying to do this on a very tight budget!

  • use the bottom bracket and cranks you already have mate

  • n what buy smaller bolts?
could do, but theres a hell of alot of rust around the bottom bracket im not to happy with

  • You should probably remove the BB to take a look around before you rule it out. Could be that the rust is only on the outside, in which case a little clean up could be all it needs to be back to its former glory.

If it's not in a serviceable order or you just want a new BB and the current BB doesn't tell you its size, measure the width and internal diameter of the shell then check out Sheldon Brown's BB size database.

I think you can simply keep the old chain rings and lay the chain on the inner one if you don't mind the 'look' of it.

  • Pretty cheap cranks that will probably be alright and have a compatible BB option:

It's still worth checking that yours isn't one of the Raleigh's with weird proprietary sizing / threading.

  • Cheers guys, I'll check this out over the weekend!
