  • most likely chainline, check what length spindle your bb has got, then check the transmission database on here.

i had a similiar issue, was down to chainline, got some chainring spacers, sorted it right out.

  • what cranks are you using? if you have the rd cranks and a 103bb (should be if you say you have a sugino rd2 bb) then it shouldnt be the chainline, unless the ellipse gives some non standard chainline, should be 42mm.

could just be a noisy chain, mines noisy as shit if i dont dip it in oil every 108 minutes

  • Using the RD2 cranks too, yea. Just looked it up on the Sugino site, the BB (103mm) gives a 45mm chainline which is allegedly what the Mavic Ellipse hubs give. Seems the Mavic hubs do give a non-standard chain line. Think I'll just accept it as it is.
What I have found though is a stiff link in the chain, presumably from where I have removed the master link and rejoined to a standard one. Nowt goes smoothly.

  • push back and forth sideways on the chain to loosen

  • All sorted, cheers for that.
Just need some decent weather now.

  • Noisy chains are pro. Lubrication adds no increase in performance (although it does protect).

  • what is this chain lube that you speak of?

  • Sanders uses jizz ;)

  • Strongly disagree. Bikes should make no noise whatsoever.

  • Strongly disagree. Bikes should make no noise whatsoever.

Not no noise, just the right noises.

  • just the noise from the tyres, that is all

  • Tyres pumped up to 130psi make the best noise. Not very comfortable like.

  • its faster too.

  • Who has a miche bb tool I can borrow for a minute?

  • Anyone got a Miche BB I can borrow for a minute?

  • I do but unfortunately I don't have a tool for it!

  • i have one

  • me and mark are coming to yours now to drop it off phil

  • Andy "Seat Post Destroyer" Brown

  • no luck with bikes me

  • Jesus, what'd you do?

  • skidded too hard to the side, wheel jumped up and slammed back down, popping my tyre and throwing me back down onto the seat real hard. lucky to have been pulling up outside my house though haha

  • Impressive, sounds quite dramatic!

  • that could have ended up being nasty if you had sat down :(

  • I just thought I'd snapped the guts on that cheap seatpost, was amazed to have done that like. It was seized into the frame and I had previously tried to get it out with a big fucking hammer so i probably weakened the post quite a bit.

You're right though, could have been alot worse!
