Have you thought of using a stem shim which would open your options up to 1 1/8 stems .. Thomson make them. Forgot to say I have a 130mm WR Compositi (?spelling) with shim that I used on an older build that didn't look out of place and it functioned perfectly.

Ah never thought of that cheers guys I'll look into it, is there no way of getting around having 1 1/8 forks or am I being dumb? Plus I've seen these unbranded carbon parts on eBay going dirt cheap the seller is called carbon_ bikes should I trust them? Can't find any reviews.

Nope there is no way of easily fitting 1 1/8 forks to a 1 head tube frame.
As for the cheap carbon bits, there is a thread elsewhere in the bikes&bits sub forum. You may get some information their.

Does any one have or no where I can get hold of a 1 inch carbon stem as I'm doing up a 1976 Nigel dean and all carbon stuff seem to be 1 1/8
Cheers
