I'm in the same position and all I've encountered in responses so far are borderline sociopaths.. Even considering Craigslist at this point but think that might be even worse :S

You send those messages in German? Might help.. Friends of mine did quite well when looking for, an apartment though.. Easy and cheap.. Keep my eye on this, since I want to leave for Berlin somewhere in August for a semester to do an internship.. Yet to arrange the whole shabang, probably be a bit "bonnefooi" style of going there halfway July to go pop round some firms..

^Ja natürlich, and I've just written a wanted ad for WG-Gesucht as well.
The whole rental market in Berlin is horrible. I managed to avoid the 'Castings' shenanigans while I was living there a few years ago, but the whole procedure sounds horrific.

Have you tried airbnb? Normally they do short term room rentals but some of them have monthly listings.

I've had a look, the prices are absolutely ridiculous. Like £900+ for one room, where the normal rent is around €350.
Good idea though.

hey mate, how about this?
friend posted on facebook today:
"Zimmer frei in Berlin / room to rent in Berlin (july till september)mein mitbewohner geht für drei monate nach china von juli bis september und vermietet in der zwischenzeit sein zimmer unter. super lage, tolle wohnung und die beste mitbewohnerin der welt. falls ihr was sucht oder jemanden kennt der was sucht (auch gern für kürzer als die vollen drei monate) dann immer her damit.
my flatmate is going to china for three months and is subletting his room from july till september. amazing room in a great location, and best thing you get to live with me. if you need somewhere to stay during that time or know someone who does, give me a shout."

Cheers for the above responses guys. I have something that seems like it's on the way to being sorted, but I will be in touch anyway. Really appreciate your help!

I know someone over from Berlin from mid-July to October who is looking for a place, but preferably a flat swap. He says...
"My Berlin-Mitte studio, 40 sqm, off Torstrasse, 5 min walk to Rosenthaler Platz, for three months (15.07. - 15.10.) for a central London room/studio/flat."
PM your details/spiel and I'll forward it on to him.

I need to move in earlier than that by a couple of weeks, and move out earlier by about 6 weeks, and I have nothing to offer him in return...do you think it would be worth it?

@tommmmmm, I don't think there's much there for you. Perhaps -sarah- might benefit?
Best of luck with the search
Long shot I know, but I've got fed up with sending off messages on WG-Gesucht that don't get replied to, and probably not even read.
Do any of the handful of Berlin dwellers here know of any free rooms going? I'm getting resigned to ringing round when I get there, but would really rather avoid that.
I'd be after something from 2nd July to the start of September - bit flexible either way on the moving out date.
Cheers
