The first time I sat on my bike, I leant up against the car, snapped my shoes into my speedplay pedals and promptly fell sideways onto the neighbours drive.

Three weeks in and still not had anything close to a tumble, even when horrifically pissed. Saying that, slipped down the stairs in my shoes the other morning, wah wahhh

soon...
As has been said many times before, when you think you're comfortable the clipless goblins will sneak up on you and push you sideways.

Me too, 1 month and still no fall, but I'm prepared for one anytime now. Also slipped on some wooden flooring, cleats slid around and i fell flat on my back...I'd have preferred to fall of mine bike.

Seemed like the best thread to ask this in, can someone explain float to me?
I have just put on some old ritchey MTB spd pedals, not sure how to explain it but they feel a little loose? As in i can move about while clipped in a fair bit before they start to unclip, is this float or do i need to tighten the fuck out of the springs?
sorry for the absolute n00b questions

Float.
The spring is to make it easier/harder to unclip.

Finally gone clipless - first ride in this morning and had a hairy moment at some lights...started to sway, panicked, got my left foot out just in time.

came to a t junction went to turn right and the traffic lights went red, couldnt react quick enough as it was my first time unclipping and fell straight onto my shoulder

First ride with new shoes and pedals this morning, first 7 miles all fine, get to a separated cycle path with lots of junctions across it, car turning left indicated very late, stopped fine, wobbled, got left foot out, but was leaning too far right, cue slow graceful fall right in front of four old ladies, and a proper hilarious laugh from a passing car!

Changed to SPD on my road bike about a month ago, almost certain that I'd fall. Changed to clips and straps on my citybike at the same time, in order to force myself to remember that I was attached to the pedals.
Haven't had any accidents yet, but I'm sure that at some point I'll forget about it, and stop at at red light and turn over. -

Never fallen off cos I couldn't unclip, rather that I unclipped when I didn't want to. Mad Skidz downhill + surprise unclip + fistful of brake in panic = somersault followed by a faceplant.
Got me hands out so could've been worse, felt like a right berk though. Time to tighten the pedals.

Lost a screw & was thus unable to unclip that shoe the other day.. it was my left foot, which I normally unclip & stand on at lights. Switching sides felt so wrong for the rest of the journey home. The brain is a funny thing

after riding for a long time on road bikes with clipless pedals, today was my first fixed gear clipless experience. Went surprisingly well after a few awkward starts when my brain was still adjusting! So far so good...

Just fell today was coming to a set of traffic lights and clipped out but for some reason I clipped myself back in and me and my bike fell , funny thing is when I fell both my feet clipped out

Yes, fell over on my first clipless ride (Onza clipless pedals with elastomer springs, if anyone remembers them). Somewhat annoyingly I was halfway across riding through a river ford at the time. Squelchy. But only on my left hand side.

Many very very near falls today on my first clipless ride but its definitely so much nicer, feel more fluid and more secure while moving. Cant say the same for stopping at the lights..

Been riding clipless now for a few days now. Have covered around 100 miles and I'm yet to fall off. Very proud!

been riding dammit's halfrauds bike, his time atac rocs are much much tighter than my battered atac xs pedals.
a few last minute unclips have resulted

Had the fortune to witness my fathers first foray into the darkside of spds... Gets on the bike - one foot in - other foot in - three pedal strokes - too busy looking at the pedals - wobbles into curb - bike and father on floor! - much swearing... SPDs removed from bike that evening.... oh well I did try!

looking forward to stories of epic fail unclip issues and DJ lands face down in ditch anecdotes.

PS, roc are tighter. I have roc on fixed and xs on 'cross bike so can confirm that James is not imagining the difference.

so yeah it happened, on route up to highbury and islington tube roundabout stopped at some lights going up hill, set off push my clipped in foot down, not enough momentum, other foot slips off pedal trying to clip in, hello floor.
That seems to be my main problem, i keep missing clipping in and my cleat slips off the pedal
Had a proper slide out early yesterday, not much damage but grazed joints. After leaving my girlfriends when I'd cleaned myself up, I slow down before pulling out of the driveway and try to unclip, knee hurts too much to twist out and I fall over like a berk. Right next to a bus stop. Great...
