• Hello all, just a little heads up about this ride, last year we had loads of people doing it from all walks of life, some doing it twice, some doing it in reverse to take in the lung tickling hills. Now in its third year and taking in the whole of Lambeth is this 18.5 mile signed route around the borough, just turn up at one of the hubs, Archbishop's Park, Clapham Common bandstand, Streatham Common and Brockwell Park(up by the house); pick up a passport with a map and do the route, here is the route http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=4509093 or you can download a map from www.biketheborough.co.uk
Get your passport stamped at each hub(or at least two hubs) to be entered into a competition to win a bike- not sure what bike yet but I think the beautiful Brixton Cycles and the lovely Specialized will be helping us out like they always do gawd bless em.
Brixton Cycles will be organising some entertainment for Brockwell Park, including Bike Shop Challenge Lambeth Bikeshops compete to assemble a bike from the box the fastest and race them, 'Bike 'Toss' see them fly! Billy's Tri-cycle 'Fool Heavyweight' Soundsystem Try a Tall bike and Dr Bike waiting for you on his couch. At Other hubs there will be Yoga for Cyclists, Rollapaluza, food and Drink.

There will be led rides leaving each of the hubs every hour on the hour from 11am.

This year we're working closely with local charity Wheels for Wellbeing who are hiring out specially adapted bikes and offering a bike buddying service. Visit www.biketheborough.co.uk for more information or call me on 020 7926 0677

Thats all from me, have a great weekend.

  • You can do all this and still enter/check out the Brixton Super Madison at the Velodrome.

  • Nice little ride this, taking in a few of the less obvious bits of Lambeth.

Tempted to volunteer for W4W buddying. What would it entail?

  • anyone doing this tomorrow?

  • I dragged myself out and completed the ride. Got soaked a few times between the Clapham, Streatham and Brockwell Park hubs but I enjoyed the ride. Saw parts of Lambeth I wouldn't normally see and roads I wouldn't normally ride on.

  • Rastafari Greetings to each and every one,

Just a quick match report from yesterday's Brixton Cycles event at the Lambeth Bike the Borough ride.
I got down to Brockwell Park to find the stall all set up, so I wasn't really needed other than being a shop dummy in team kit, so I
just chatted to Barney, Maggie and the others whilst we waited for Billy to arrive - he couldn't leave his home until the rain held off for
fear of electrocution as he was bringing the bike sound system.

A resonable crowd had gathered as it was near the cafe and the weather was being nice.

The first event was a from the box bike build challenge with three challengers
Tim - a mobile bike mechanic
? - sorry I did not catch his name from London Recumbents
    Billy - from Brixton Cycles.
The idea was get bike assembled properly and ride around bit of park in shortest time. Billy took the honours for Brixton Cycles.

The next event was a bike toss where anyone could enter. Mercifully no one from the Health and Safety Executive was present....
Simple rules throw the BMX the furthest and you win it.
The first round saw a few interesting techniques employed and saw three people through to the 'toss off' final.
One was just a regular guy, the other a young but built lad called Junior and a lycra clad guy who looked like a discus thrower.
Needless to say the most athletic guy won, but here is the nice bit. He donated his prize and it was given to Junior. As he left he was
applauded out of the park - it was a lovely gesture.

So all in all a lovely relaxed not taken too seriously event.

Great work Brixton Cycles keep those wheels turning...

    Peace and Love,
    Tim

  • Aw, it sounds like a lovely day. We left for home just before the build a bike competition, after we'd bumped into loads of people and stood around chatting for an hour. It started pissing down just as we arrived at our front door, so I think our timing was spot on.

Despite being home before the clouds cleared for the day, I still managed to get sunburnt.
