• Hey guys

I've removed my buttom bracket from my frame.
At the spindle of the buttom bracket it's shown that's a 3P buttom bracket model.

    http://sheldonbrown.com/bbsize.html

My question is what buttom bracket i should get for my frame?

    Regards balle

  • I recently purchased a cross bike with an FSA K- Force crankset (crankset probably 5 years old). From my knowledge it is an integrated external bottom bracket - and my issue is that the left crank has a couple of mm play ("horisontal and vertical") on the spindle.
I have removed the crank a couple of times and replaced - banged with a mallet to ensure that the crank was all the way on when tightening - but cant seem to get it snug. The splines on the bb (from the other crank) look fine - and the crank splines seem ok.

Any suggestions on how I can get this snug? Feels really weird - and I dont want to ruin what are otherwise nice cranks in good shape.

    Cheers!

in case anyone cares - and has a similar issue - I found the diagram online of this crankset and realised I was missing a crush washer. Found them online for like 2 euro - problem solved - nice tight fit on the cranks. Really happy I solved it as I didnt want to buy new cranks for this ride.

    cheers

  • I've been out of the game for 30 years & am trying to fix up my bikes that have been stored in the gargae for years. I'm trying to find what Cranks are compatible with a Super record bottom bracket bearing from about 1980.

I bought the bearing new & it is hardly used, but I have an SR crankset on it. I am now wanting to get a used Campagnolo chainset for it. Obviously nouvo record & SUper record & possibly Gran sport will fit. But I are any of the more recent chainsets compatible ?? Any advice would be appreciated.

    regards

    Rob

  • Any suggestions on a suitable bb for stronglight track 2000 cranks to a suzie pro max hub to get a decent chain line?

    Thanks

  • Isn't the promax a standard 42mm chainline? If so 107 jis should work a treat. Just use the stronglight 2000 bb.

  • I've got a Sugino - CBB 103 Bottom Bracket on my Leader 725 with Sugino - RD2 Messenger Crank Set but its not in line with my rear cog. Do I need to get a new BB? Maybe 107 or 110mm?

  • Finally found a use for a SRAM Red crankset I got a bargain on a couple years ago and solved a Goldtec chainline headache.

  • I've been searching around but can't seem to find any answers to my question, if it's already been answered, I'm sorry!

What do you look for when you buy cranks? What makes one pair better than another apart from weight? Are they more structurally integral And hence flex less creating a more efficient transfer of power or is this negligible between different models?

    Cheers

  • I need a hollow bottom bracket that will fit a 22mm spindle, any recommendations?

  • I really don't understand anything (even after reading a lot) about what bottom bracket would fit, help me please?
I'm currently using the Miche Primato bottom bracket (107mm/Italian/ISO). I want the Dura Ace 7600 cranks, what bb should i get? I was thinking about the Sugino 75 but this has English threading and that means that it wouldn't fit?

  • The bottom bracket threading is frame dependent, and has nothing to do with the cranks. What frame do you have? The vast majority of frames these days, including those from Italian manufacturers, are English threaded.

Dura Ace 7600 cranks are NJS approved, meaning they require an ISO taper rather than a JIS one. The Sugino 75 is, I believe, also NJS approved so will be ISO taper.

  • I seem to have the same problem. I have the 7600 NJS cranks, and I have been running them with an 110 mm JIS BB, namely Kinex. The chainline is not spot-on, but everything seems to run smooth.
Until today, I found out that D-A NJS is ISO taper.
So, definitely I am doing something wrong (or not) since people say stay away from matching ISO and JIS.

Now, willing to do things by the book, which one is the official BB spindle length and standard (ISO or JIS) for these cranks?

  • Those cranks are supposed to have a 109mm ISO taper which means running them with a JIS bb, your effectively running 113.5 ISO bb, so your chainline is 4.5mm off

  • Forgot to mention, running 120 mm frame, D-A hub, cog and lockring.
Wheel spins together with crank for many, many times before stop and judging by eye, it's pretty OK (ish). However, I will invest in a 109 mm BB.

  • Hello everyone,

New to this forum. I am from the Netherlands and found there is a lot of useful information here and even more inspiration. After building several singlespeeds (Giant speeder, Gazelle Champion Mondial etc.) I'm now starting to create a fixie. Again a Champion Mondial from around 1980. The former owner destroyed it with a terrible paintjob and it was neglected (totally understandable) afterwards. The bike has a nice Campagnolo super record group on it and that creates the biggest problem for me right now. Until now I only worked on bikes fitted with shimano parts and removing the crank was never a problem. I tried to remove it with my standard crankpuller but nothing moved. I'm now wondering if I would need a special crankpuller foor campa or should I just try to use more force?

    Any advice is appreciated

  • Trying to figure out whether BB thread in a Ridley Oval 907c is standard or italian?
I know that older models were italian but have they since changed to BSA?

Thanks for any help fellow forumengers

  • hello!

I am trying to build up a vetta custom frame fixed.
The frame has quite thick tubes on the chain stay, so i need a chainline approx 46-47mm.
An older goldtec hub + EAI cog gives me a chainline of 46,3mm on my rear wheel, now i still have to find a solution for the front.
    I´ve tried:
Miche Primato 107 BB + Miche Advanced crankset = 43,5mm (nearly touches chainstay, already placed around a lot)
Campy (old stock) 115 BB + Miche Advanced crankset = 48mm (too much, turning the axle around makes it worse, 50mm)
New Campy Veloce 111 BB (symmetrical) + Miche Advanced crankset = 45mm (still a bit to less/close to the chain stay, grrrr...)

Putting the chainring on the other side of the crank, won´t help, because the arms of the crank (165) are as well to close to chain stay, just like the crankset maybe 1mm more space.

I´m already tired of buying things, trying and then fail ...
Does anyone know a solution, or rather a good bottom bracket + crankset combination that gives me a 46-47mm chain line?
The frame is ITA 70mm, 36x24.
I would like to keep the Miche Advanced crankset (ISO taper) but which bottom bracket would fit? So if you have tipps for JIS taper combinations, or anything else, would help me a lot!

    Thanks!!!

  • Possibly a very silly question but I'm planning to attach a TA chainring to a Campagnolo Centaur crank and I need to get some bolts for it. I've heard 5mm is the standard size but I wasn't sure whether this applied to single chainrings too?

  • hey,
fitting a shimano bottom bracket into a brand new pompino frame, the threads in the bottom bracket shell are interrupted by lumps from the chainstay joint, causing the plastic cup to strip as it goes in. Tempted to get a file out but dont want to void any help from On-One.
Any advice from experienced bottom bracket fitters? Is it a case of taking the frame back or filing off the lumps and carrying on?
    Thanks,
    Ben

  • I'm building a fixed gear road bike and have run into some trouble.
while taking the BB apart to clean it the rubber seals fell apart. does anyone know the name of these and if or where you can buy them. pics below show the bracket and the problem!!

  • You can probably get seals.

Here is how to use images:

  • Hello, need a new crankset (road ofc) with 48t and should be all black. Pricelimit is 80£ or something like that.. Which one should I get?

  • thanks for the help with photos!!

so these are the rubber seals I need, they came out of the outer part of the BB (excuse the ignorance, dont know the name)

Anyone know the name of them or where I could find a replacment??
    thanks.

  • That is just like a shamano 600 (circa 1990-92) bb that i serviced a few days ago. the broken seal run inside the seal that is stll in the bb shells in your lower picture. Neat idea sealing all the grit and water out. without those seals it will be no better than an non-sealed bb and will need more regular maintenance.
