  • Rooney's rug is absolutely hilarious!

  • he's already going bald again... at about of 2 grand a strand he better get some good endorsements out of it soon before it runs away and leaves him again.

  • I admire how he's been very open and self deprecating about it. He twittered a pic of it soon after a few procedures, and tonight when asked about andy carroll he said he only hoped he could have his hair.

He just needs a normal haircut

  • Apart from Ashley Cole's effort I can't remember another England shot on target. We had a couple of headed chances (that we should have done better with) and we were extremely lucky that Gerrards cross made its way through 3 deflections before reaching Rooney for a sitter, but I can't remember another shot (i.e. from a foot) that called their keeper into the action. I missed the first 25 mins though as I was on a ride ;-)

Much as I've fallen out of love with football these days I'd still love to see England do well in this competition (mainly as its the first England team I've seen since about 2002 that seem to actually care about playing for their country) but I just can't see us getting any further unless we find some creative flair going forward. So far we've looked devoid of ideas and decisiveness in the final third.

And their "claimed goal" was clearly off side in the build up so play should have been halted long before Terry hoofed it out the goal mouth.

Had to laugh at Jamie Carragher saying on the tv coverage "it's not right a lad from croxteth using product" about Rooney apparently using Andy Carroll's hair products.

  • It's only right and proper that England get knocked out by Germany or Portugal so I have to go with

    Czech Rep 1-3 Portugal
    Spain 2-0 France
    Germany 4-1 Greece
    England 1-0 Italy

Then we can lose to Germany in semis or if by some miracle beat them, the divers in the final

  • Love the way the press are still on Englands back despite finishing top of the group
    Al Green
"Arguably, the French were better, the Swedes were better and Ukraine were better. But somehow it is England who have won the group."

Arguably Alan, you're a twat, but why the need for constant argument? We are amazingly top of the group. Let's be done with it

  • BBC in overdramatisation of an event shocker ?

  • QF predos

    Czech Rep 0-2 Portugal
Spain 1-1 France (France win on penalties)
    Germany 3-0 Greece
England 0-0 Italy (1-1 AET Italy to win on penalties)

  • Game was tense, nervous and England managed to scrape through. Not pretty though. Ashley young has had a poor tourney so far and I'm not sure why Hodgson keeps picking him. Replace him with Walcott and use the Ox as your change of pace sub with Milner. Both young and Walcott would be right footed on the left wing and would want to come inside onto their right foot anyway.

Got a bit upset with everyone calling the Ukraine effort a disallowed goal. It was never allowed in the first place so it can't be disallowed! Pundits! Christ! And as much as everyone is wittering on about goal line technology (myself included), if the linesman had done his job and flagged him offside to begin with as he was there would be no need to discuss it at all.

England looked solid without really lookig threatening, we had what 4/5? Shots on goal, never looked like doing anything apart from on the break. We'll have another go against the Italians on the weekend. Right now we are just a slightly more ambitious version of Greece in 2004, and we really miss a ball playing center half and midfielder. The omission of Carrick seems even more like cutting off your nose to spite your face. Not a one of englands midfield can hold the ball, link play and carry on, we never seem to have those moments when we sit on the edge of an opponents 18yd box and ping it around looking for an opening.

    Quarterfinal will be interesting.
Portugal have a good chance of getting to the semis, France could really trouble spain and Greece Germany is a match I won't be watching....

  • What is wrong with 'it is a goal if it is clearly over the line' - it wasn't clear therefore no goal?

It could well have been over the goal line but I could not see 100% for sure whether the last inch of the diameter was over. It was very close.
    .

Well, it looked pretty clear to me. But that's my point. That's my judgement, and I'm human, and can make mistakes.

I don't want video refs, as decisions will still be subjective, and potentially wrong (look at how pundits still argue when seeing a replay), and will delay and change the game.

But for things like the goal line, and offside, which are absolutes, you can use lasers, chips, whatever, and a computer can make an instant decision, that will be correct (at least as far as technology allows, a mm over a couple of meters will be no problem, maybe a μm might be more of an issue).

There is no reason not to use them at the top level of the game.

  • without controversy the football threads around the nation would be pretty bland

  • It's alright, we still have fouls to argue over.

  • I was just reading a german tabloid, and it's full of comments from German Cliveos, saying it's a conspiracy, and Uefa wanted England to get through.

Some things never change, just the perspective of where you are from.

  • It's alright, we still have fouls to argue over.

and stupid managers and their behaviour !

Ukraine coach Oleg Blokhin lost his temper with a journalist after the Euro 2012 defeat to England, asking him outside for "man conversation".

    BBC

Have to disagree with you there. Alan Green unquestionably *is *a twat.

  • Germans talking about conspiracy? Never...

  • Corndog: but Carrick doesn't run around at full pelt. Or ping passes into row ZZ.

Solid performance. Distressingly, Ashley young kept putting Ashley Cole into situations that could have been avoided.
Also. When walcott came on, if he'd have actually taken up a position om the right wing (rather than wandering around aimlessly in the middle) he might have occupied the Ukrainian left back and stretched their defence. Instead we kept getting dicked.

If this was come dine with me there would be tough reviews and then a 7. We got the job done, against much weaker opposition, with the potential to push on and test ourselves. 6.

  • No they are shit and lucky to get through.
Ill try and think of an appropriate forfeit for you for when Germany beat Greece

What the fuck do you bring to this thread? Apart from inanity and twattery?
    Srs qstn.

  • good looks and a charming smile ?

  • isn't that enough
most of us know nothing about footie and bash on regardless ( well myself for sure )

  • My thoughts entirey. You don't need to know how to make music to enjoy a fine album, wine to enjoy to a fine Bordeaux. You don't even need to know how Star Wars is made to enjoy it for the 40000th time. In fact, I refuse to watch 'the making of' any film as I know it will ruin the magic. So who gives a shit if you know about football or not, doesn't mean you can't enjoy it, discuss it or talk bollox about it. Eh Dicki? :)

  • too right matey

you don't have to know how those ping pong balls pop out to enjoy thailand / a night in amsterdam right

  • Ok so....... I cant go through this all again, please not again.

Every time, I say I'm not getting involved, I've had it with supporting England at Euros and World Cups..... and everytime I get sucked back in and then my heart gets shattered all over again.........

So here we are back against Italy on Sunday.... the thing is I work for an Italian company and I really cannot go through loosing to them again !

Please, what are our real odds for getting passed Italy ???

    : /
    (please be kind)
