That Prada Marfa thing is disgusting, plus I dont see what it has to do with photography.
Depressing.
-
• #4028
why?
-
• #4029
why disgusting?
the photo itself is a nice (if unspectacular) shot of an art installation, so not exactly nothing to do with photography.

Are you calling that art? Just using the name and the design of something already famous and commercial mixed in an empty landscape.
Just using... and probably brown nosing the high society.
Disgusting.
The photo is just nothing.

did you read the link? The whole idea is that it is left untouched and so will weather and age with the landscape.

Wow.

who pissed on your chips?

Did Miuccia Prada once laugh at you when you stubbed your toe?
-
• #4035
I wasn't speaking of Miuccia, you fool.
-
• #4036
Ok then, did Michael Elmgreen and Ingar Dragset once laugh at you when you burnt your toast?
-
• #4037
No, I think they laugh at buyers like you.
-
• #4038
Or better, they laugh thanks to buyers like you.
-
• #4039
buyers like me? What have I bought?
-
• #4040
A posted picture of their fabulous artwork.

I never said I agree or even like it did I? You're instant reaction of "it's disgusting" is just such an overreaction that it smacks of jumping to conclusions and generalisations.
-
• #4042
Hardly. I think it's shit too.
-
• #4043
And surely that's the point of this "art"? You're arguing about it, so it's done it's job.
-
• #4044
Surely it hasn't done it's job until the viewer has the same thoughts/feelings as the creator.

That statement makes the assumption that all art must be seeking to mean the same thing to all people
-
• #4046
Besides - you are all missing out on the best part of Marfa, Texas.

That part of the world is one of the most desolately beautiful parts of the US. I would encourage anyone to go spend some time at Big Bend National Park.

It does indeed. I'm still unsure as to whether or not I agree with it.
It's why I don't like the captions that are added below most of the pictures posted in this thread. I like to make my own mind up. I have google fu, so can look up anything I may want to know more about.

Personally I think captions are important, especially as a lot of what is posted is press work (a medium where the story is key). Just because an image is captioned doesn't mean you can't make your own mind.

In an undated picture, a mock-up of the A-12 spy plane sits perched upside down on a testing pylon at Area 51—part of radar tests to reveal how visible, or invisible, the design was to radar.
CIA
I have found a higher res version but its got a naff watermark on it

The captions are a tough one. Sometimes they really help tell the story, other times they detract from the story you have built in your mind.
Either way - Spotter and Marcom - do keep up the good work. I have very little time to spend on the forum lately and this is one of few threads where I make the effort to see the updates. Thank you for your captioned and captionless pics.
its an old photo taken with old technology, (probably low speed film and a high aperture) which means the photographer had to use a relatively long exposure, as testified to by the slight ghosting on the figure on the right. As such the bright white 'W' is slightly overexposed and you can see some of the reflected light.
