  • I've just remembered a finishing technique that i was told about. You have to use a light-ish shade of slow drying gloss paint, then while it's still wet, run a lit candle a few cm's from the underneath of the tubes to make the soot from the flame stick to the paint in random streaks. I have no idea what it looks like but intend to find out soon, gonna give it a try on my rat bike - maybe just the seat tube to start with. Because it's gloss paint its not the tidiest or most hardwearing of coatings but i'm keen to find out if it creates a good effect. Suppose I could put a few coats of clear aerosol lacquer on afterwards if i like it

    thinking of using grey gloss so it doesn't end up looking too zebra-esque!
