I climbed mont ventoux two weeks ago with a friend, where we encountered a bunch of very wealthy 40-something americans struggling up on shiny rental madones followed by a fully stocked air conditioned minibus/support crew from a company called 'Trek Tours', which regularly supplied them with drinks and gels before whisking them back to the chateaux for cheese and wine. the yellow bracelets were everywhere. these people have no idea.
for me, personally, contemporary pro cycling was always a joke during the tour de lance years. i've only been able to believe in it recently, i think for the first time in my own lifetime really. this is a good thing. the man is a disgrace. no one who wanted to race clean even had a chance against him and he did it all with an eye on building a business empire. there aren't many public figures outside politics who i actively hate but he is number one.
i just cannot see how it could possibly be damaging for the sport to finally bust the bastard.
