Analog film photography and cameras

  • I had an ME that ate films. It'd randomly jam up, tear sprocket holes, over-wind etc. I've heard of a few others doing similar so might be a common problem (maybe with an easy fix? I just sold mine on).

A quick google turned up this

    http://www.kyphoto.com/classics/pentaxmeproblems.html

Point B. seems relevent tot his problem. If getting the cover off looks easy I might open it up later and have a look. Failing that I might just try another film and see how it goes.

The film that had the problem with overwinding was the first one the camera had used in about 15 years, so maybe the mechanism was just a bit seized up through lack of use.

  • http://www.ccimaging.co.uk/ have a deal on where they send you a free 120 or 35mm slide film and then process, mount and scan it for £10.

  • That's ace. Thanks

  • Google suggests it's because Fuji released a load of very slightly out of date stuff.

    Velvia 50 here for 3.99.

  • The problem I had with the winding mechanism on my Pentax transferred to the images I got back from Jessops, I take it because they just use a machine and don't check the results as they go. Anyway, quite pleased with the image quality and focal range that a camera with proper lenses provides

Can anyone recommend a good place to get film 'developed to cd'?

  • XA2, Fuji 400 or something I dunno.

  • if in London, Eyeculture on fashion st (just off brick lane)

  • Cheers for that

  • If I didn't have two enlargers already I would be all over this.

  • Does anyone have a 35mm Slide scanner I could borrow?

  • Opinions needed here; going on holiday next weekend for a week to Spain/costa brava and will be going a couple of days to Barcelona, Im taking plenty of slide film and a couple fo B&W negatives. my concern is camera choices, bear in mind Im only taking hand luggage Im torn between Olympus XA or Pentax ME Super, I'm also taking my Canon 400D. not much space to carry everything tho as my partner is taking her diana mini.

    what shall I take?

    cheers

  • If it were me I'd take the XA. For its size and weight, the easiness of shooting. It's great for taking quick snaps of people, buildings and moments that might not be there for long!

  • My personal favourite from the XA2.

  • Thanks, the XA is the one I had in mind, but I do love my ME Super.

  • I also absolutely love the ME Super. It's probably my favourite ever camera (even though I no longer own one).

  • I'm selling my Asahiflex Ia.

Just bunged it up on the bay coz it's free listing this weekend so I won't do a classified but if your interested give me a shout.

If you don't know, the Asahiflex was Japan's (and probably the world's) first slr camera. It's very Leica III in size and appearance but has a waist level finder which is without a doubt the single nicest way to view the world.

  • Opinions needed here

Well if you're going to take a 400D with you, you already have a SLR.
If there's a nice lens for it, I wouldn't bother bringing an extra SLR
(and if there isn't a good lens for it, leave that squeeking thing at home).

Just do the analogue stuff with the XA, it's perfect for travel and street anyway.

By the way, just got the first two rolls of my XA dev'd and printed.
    Happy with the results!

Shot a roll of Portra, and an Ektar.
Was suprised that the Portra was starting to go grainy (10x15cm prints, 160 iso film!), and rendered skin tones rather un-sexy.
    Anybody else experienced that?
Haven't shot that Portra with another camera yet, so can't compare.
Ektar (which is sold at drug stores over here now for €4.50) combined with sunny weather & the XA is a super team.

  • A few new ones from the contax tvs using tudorcolour 200

  • I'm selling my Pentax 67 with 75mm lens and metered prism for £400 if anyone is interested? http://www.lfgss.com/thread87998.html#post2959248

  • Haven't been shooting much full stop, let alone film, for the last cuttla months. Here's some awld photos nontheless:

    Yashica Electro/Lomo 400
