Sounds like a great ride to me, going by the previous thread.
Provisionally in depending on whether I've got a replacement biek sorted out by then.

Would really like to do this but couple of questions (sorry):
It's not going to be fast, like actually fast fast, right?
How will people be getting back? There was mention of train from Pewsey for £20 in the last thread? I can't afford to spend much more than that... -

standard fares would be about that, but using a groupsave it would half that.
The pace will not be fast fast, the aim is to long steady miles and all get there together. Last time we didn't get to the stones before sunrise, i'd like to give that a proper go if we can.
Saying that, i would appreciate if people only came if they are confidant in their ability to ride 90 miles, as there will not be any bail out points at that time of night.

Thanks laner.
Sounds good, won't put myself on the list for now as I think I'll be having a tiring week so can't say 100% (totally not because I always fuck up complicated posts from this tablet). Hopefully it will mess up my sleep pattern in a way that leaves me wide awake all that night.

Would love to do this again but I'm in the depths of end of year university work and I need to find a new house by the end of the month. Last year was fantastic (if a bit slower than planned), and I highly recommend this to anyone confident riding that sort of distance.

i reckon a small group will be best to get in before sunrise.
i'd also not recommend this as a first long ride.

Hello!
I'm new here, but...
I would go, as well! I like the idea! :)Yes it seems a small group so far, but thats ok, because i also wanna be there in time! ;)

Hi All,
New on these forums as well, but have been looking forward to this ride for over a year when I first heard about it. Can I please register my interest? I am not ultrafast but have been doing audaxes and night rides for quite some time, so should be fine.
Up for a group save on the way back to London, or maybe even cycling half way somewhere more convenient (i.e. cheaper!) than Swindon.

Really up for this and probably will jump on board, having a little bit of issue with a niggle in my knee after a 200+km ride recently but it should hold up the 90m and cycle from stratford.
Will confirm later. -

Current forecast for Wednesday night/thursday morning shows 12-15mph tailwind, cloudy and warm (14C) until 2am with showers until 5am at which point heavy rain :( Forecasting likely to be innacurate timewise with that wind strength......
I would like to try to join but wifely anger will be at peak following new bike aquisition tomorrow (fingers crossed).

the weather was pretty grim last year also.
i've not actually seen a sunrise in 3 years of doing this ride, you kinda get a gettingabitlighterrise.
-
• #16
I'm gonna be geared and wearing Rapha like a fool. Last year I rode it fixed on a bike which didn't fit me - my knee imploded.
PS; Laner, I will have a tenner for you from Ads. -
• #17
Never mind worrying about being too tired, I won't be able to make it at all now. I so wanted to do this as well. :(
Hope you guys get to see the sunrise though, or at least hang out with some cool druids or whatever.

As soon as I get over my hangover, I'm gonna get very excited about this. One of my favourite rides of last year.

Yeah as Steve said the 'gettingabitlighterise' was a bit of an anticlimax, don't know what I was expecting really, some sort of equatorial mahoosive orb of orangey-ness rising accompanied by the theme tune from 2001. Well that would'nt be British at all, cold, overcast with light drizzle is much more Blighty.
Anyway I'm still looking forward to this regardless of weather, are we doing the pub stop again? I am tempted to get a celebratory beer or two to have on arrival at Avebury, do you think its best to get before I leave London? I dont recall us passing anywhere to get any on route last time, apart from maybe takeouts from the pub.
I've still got that bottle of rum from last year, so will make a flask of rum coffee to warm any cold cockles. #not a euph#

I'm planing it with a fixed, is it that bad?

nope.
it's a super fixed route.
feck all hills really. -
• #22
really? That route says 2500ft total climb?
-
• #23
That's not much climbing for 90 miles! London to Brighton is over 3000 ft in 55 miles.
-
• #24
really? That route says 2500ft total climb?
it's 800 odd metres of climbing over 90 odd miles.
that's flat.

As Skive can't organise this year, i will jump in with Garmin ready.
Here's the route.

The plan will be the same as last time: 8pm meet at Speaker's Corner in Hyde Park.
Then roll out for a lovely 90 night time mile to hopefully reach Avebury Stone Circle just before sunrise.
