Dog's can't look up
Probably not the point of the thread to debate each point but I always understood that this has some validity but is poorly expressed (if it makes it better I can pretend to be in the pub).
Obviously they can look up but the point is that their field of vision is limited as they cannot move their eyes and head up to the same degree as a human. So for them to look at something high above them the may need to 'stand up' or roll on their backs.
The key killer argument of course is that I read in 'Fighting Skills of the SAS' (£1 Sandbatch motoway services) thhat if you are trying to escape or get by a dog team when you are on the run in enemy teritory (as often happens) you need to climb up somewhere high and by pass them that way. I'm sure it said dogs can't look up high or something, something about bad eyesight and relying on their sense of smell... I can't remember off hand but it was written by someone in the SAS so you'd hope they knew what they were doing.
