50x17 matches local area nicely. Mostly flat but a few hills of varying degrees.

48/16, the 1 patch is shite but i love the speed in london. I want more patches but dont really want to go down to 17 on the back, 47/16?

Vote for 46/18!

52/17 fairly similar ratio but with more skid patches. 44x15 also works.

47x17 or 47x18 what I been running lately...

Was pretty envious of my skinny mate's compact whilst climbing several 20%+ hills yesterday on my 42x27....

47/18 sounds nice Tom. I used to love 48/18 but it's not so friendly on tyres. I swapped out for a 19t a few months back and I'm loving the spinnyness.
Will be ordering a new chainring soon and I'm trying to choose between 47t or 49t as I have the choice. Decisions, decisions… I think 49/19 would be nice.

47/18 is nice indeed, just right for ups and downs, loads of skid patches... I would recommend.
49/19 could be good too, slightly spinnier...

49/19 is my preferred ratio, but sram only make the omnium chainring in 48t so that is what i have to use at the moment

i ride 47/18 and i love it. but i've damaged my chainring and i fear 47t replacement won't be so easy to source second hand :(
48/18 will still feel good and go up any hills i encounter but it's only 3 skid patches.

Then go 49 but really 49 17 is the best ratio for everything so change both. 170mm cranks too :)

city street pootle is 49x16. 60-100km countryside excursion is 50x16. last nights track fitness training was 51x15.

48 x 16 at the moment seems good for my commute (19 miles) anything shorter I'd probably want 48 x 17. May try a different chain ring size soon.

I wouldn't go for 48/18 I smashed through tyres so quick, I try not to skid all the time but it still doesn't help. Same with 48/16, I found I got through tyres pretty sharp ish

might just start shifting the tyre round a bit after every couple of rides

I found myself moving the wheel round a couple of links it made the tyre last a bit longer, having a 17t sprocket on the rear is best. 46x17 gives a similar GI but gives you plenty of skid patches, it really does make a massive difference in terms of tyre longevity.

20 mins Greenwich to Victoria 6 days a week! That ratio powers! -

48 x 16 is hurting my left knee. Must change asap. As in, tonight! Today's commute was excruciatingly painful.
44/16 seems to have found me.
