ITV - Diamond Jubilee brings boost for East Midlands Economy
These kind of reports are pointless, they only confirm what we already know - that some businesses will make money out of the events. They do nothing to make the economic case for having a royal family, they take no account of costs, they take no account of lost revenues, they take no account of tourists who would come if we didn't have a royal family, etc.
*However the Chamber warns the good news will be offset by lost productivity for local businesses, as we take an extended weekend off.
Last year's Royal Wedding helped to make April the best month for retail sales growth in 2011 and retailers will be hoping for a similar increase in retail spend this weekend. However, as with all prestigious international occasions such as this, there will be winners and losers and while it is clearly good news for the retail and hospitality sectors, there will be businesses out there that will lose out by having to absorb the cost of closing down and giving their staff an extra day off for the extended Bank Holiday.
– GEORGE COWCHER, CHIEF EXECUTIVE DERBYSHIRE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE*

Fuuuuuuuuu. Putting this thread on ignore...
Why?
You made a number of assertions. You have been asked to back them up. If there is any substance to the assertions that you make, you will do so. If not....oh well, you might as well pop this on ignore and place your head into the sand and admire the emperor's wonderful new clothes.

I'm putting it on ignore because I can't be bothered arguing about this any more, and it's upsetting me.I have already said what I know to be true. I've not read any compelling 'evidence' on here which backs up other views and I have already said what my views are based on. Perhaps there is no conclusive report or evidence for any of these.
I'm not trying to shut anyone up who has a view and we are probably all right to an extent (though, what emperor are you even talking about Clive?)
I only entered the argument on the basis of finding some people's comments here about hoping the royals die and them not doing anything but taking from the people and economy quite offensive. Maybe I am just an oversensitive human.
I didn't stand in the rain waving flags, I don't particularly agree with there being a monarchy even, and I don't advocate elitism (in fact I spent most of my youth rebelling against this), but as far as carrying out a job goes, the Queen has been superb and selfless, and I know I am not the only one who has this opinion.

GA2G, I couldn't give a shit one way of the other. I'm not interested in everyone agreeing. What makes me want to vomit is your smug, mawkish, condescending attitude coupled with the puerile, vacuous non-content of your argument.
The fact that you cite a Daily Mail poll as 'the end' of the discussion is hilarious and really does draw a line under your contribution here, though possibly not in the way you intended.
You clearly just crave attention. I might put you on ignore unless you can wind your neck in a bit.

Who does their tax returns?
She has one of her 'people' do it...who are paid for by us and our FIAT rape the poor by proxy money systems, tho don't worry she's a a very busy queen that isn't a rip off or anything...Just like when that nice man Donald Rumsfeld told the Americans (On September the 10th...coincidence...Never!!!) that 'we can't find 2.3 trillion dollars of your tax money, tho its ok we have a dedicated team of accountants looking for it that, so don't worry about it... we aren't going to blow them up tomorrow in a one of the largest false flag operations ever or anything like that...nnaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa...

Wear a badge? You like elitism now as it promotes 'clean living' and not existing next to a railway in the slums?
This is a life long thing...not a teenage fad...? OMFG...WTF happened in the last 30 years...? Ikea? Interior Design? Roller Ball? CakeBaking? is that what happened? The 'new' black? is a multipurpose fold out queen mask? aaaaaaaaaaaargh!!!??...the sex pistols were the only boat on the water in 1977, OMG looks like the flouride is working...fucked pineal gland anyone?
Hey can I interest you in a Fiat money system? It used to belong to Don Rumsfeld? Only costs 8-10 Billion Bail out money* .....(* in 'Old' money that equates to nearly a trillion dollars, tho thats nothing to do with that 3.2 trillion, this is another one we cannot find...)

The industry that I work in will make approximately 25% less this week compared to the same week last year. That's for London alone, my bet guess is that for the provinces it will be most likely closer to 40%.
Last year for the wedding the revenues were down by 30% vs 2010 and 2012 revenues were up by 40% vs 2011. Business travel brings in more money than leisure travel. Period.
Royal celebrations are a royal fuck up.

the emperor's wonderful new clothes.
Er, unlike your pitiful Queen, I see no need to spend billions on pastel shaded suits. I can cut quite the dash in a simple robe.
It's straightforward really, turn out in new kit every day and people criticise you for costing the nation. Rock the old robe constantly and nobody notices you've been spending the whole fucking welfare state on a death star.
I know you've tried with the fencing mask things and that 'shard', but come one, I've got shuttles bigger than those.

If Monarchy's are such a boon to he economy perhaps they could reintroduce them in the eurozone?
The econonmic argument for the monarchy, true or not, isn't a Royalist argument, at best it's just a pragmatic rationale to put up with them.
A Royalist primarily supports the principle of non elected hereditary aristocrats. Either as a convenient consitutional device, or because they just like the idea. It's a twee and tasteless thing, but that sums up the conservative values of this country.
This moronic attitude that to not love the Royals makes you a republican is tiresome. They exist as a constitutional hangover, but it works. They aren't bankrupting the country but neither are they bankrolling it.
The sad thing is that most Royalists aren't concerned with the any of this. They're just in favour of all the tat and sentimental nationalism which is rammed down our throats constantly. England is an extremely nationalistic country, yet somehow we seem think we're above all it.
