Is it time to start calling out bad cyclists?

  • I had pondered sticking it in the 'Oh Shit! moments' thread, but decided that here was most likely better. If I'd been a going a bit faster, or a bit closer, it could have been a lot worse.

Fortuantly it all looks worse than it is. The head bump is going down already, as is my lip, the cut to my nose is superficial, but has stertistrips over it, stuck down with liquid plaster stuff, and no headaches or anything, or signs of concussion.

  • Draw your own collisions >>>>>>

  • Photo or it didn....
Oh there is a photo :)
    HealTFU

  • Heal up soon, MrDrem. Well done for calling yourself out.

  • If Wednesday is anything to go by, it's time to start being called out by bad cyclists who you called out for being a bad cyclist.

    It's just getting silly now.

  • With all due respect but you have the biggest clue as to what is potentially coming....The junction on your left!!!!!!!
If you see a left hand turn, then the chances are there will be someone looking to pulling across your lane. Expect it and get no surprises.

Couldnt agree more. i do not cycle down this road merely making an observation from the few times ive walked down it to stockwell tube

  • Conformists. #FTS

  • for the shimano?

  • How would we feel if drivers said "We all speed, including my driving instructor :) Time for the speed limit to be raised"?

    They do - http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/sep/29/speed-limit-raised-80mph

"up to 49% of drivers are currently breaking the top speed limit."

  • Doesn't matter with the speed limit is the same percentage will go the same amount above it.

  • To the cyclist who collided with the bus stop in Hackney Central earlier today, there is a reason why your bike came with brakes.

  • If Wednesday is anything to go by, it's time to start being called out by bad cyclists who you called out for being a bad cyclist.

    It's just getting silly now.

That's because they get defensive when you expose their inadequacies, however ludicrous the attempt may be.

Like the driver who crashes into a bollard, but immediately blames the bollard (an inanimate object) because it "shouldn't have been there".

    Brilliant avatar BTW

  • The two policemen on those terrible police mountain bikes who've just pulled across the traffic in Delancey Street, Camden and through a No Entry sign, then shouted at the woman they nearly hit (for 'not looking'), and shortly afterwards at me for 'sticking your nose in' when I tried to explain to them what they'd done.

Perhaps if the sign had read 'Popo No Go'...

  • That's because they get defensive when you expose their inadequacies, however ludicrous the attempt may be.

Like the cyclist who crashes into a stopped car, but immediately blames the car for slamming on its brakes, but later changes it to blaming it on a black car that was on black tarmac in the shade".

especially when the car was blue

  • ^ the car you are referring to was clearly; black, on black tarmac, in the shade. Despite photographic evidence to the contrary, Rowhan saw it with his own eyes therefore it is true.

  • I don't think he did see it, that was the issue.

  • In case anyone is interested in the numbers heres the 2010 DFT report on road casualties. There are links to the base numbers they use as well somewhere in there.

    http://assets.dft.gov.uk/statistics/releases/road-accidents-and-safety-annual-report-2010/rrcgb2010-00.pdf

From my own analysis a cyclist has a 10:1 risk of being a casualty to causing a ped casualty, a motorist has a 0.6:1 risk. ie a motorist in twice as likely to harm than be harmed, a cyclist is 10 times more likely to be harmed than harm.

  • Heres the page with an excel sheet with all the numbers:

    http://www.dft.gov.uk/statistics/tables/ras40004/

  • its cyclists going through red lights that gets me , I always stop!

  • Right, following the above, I've finally put myself foward for cycle training at Merton one Saturday. Actions speak louder than words, right?

  • if that's the one that begins in the car park by the station depot in morden I'll keep an eye out for you and give you a nice big DAS :D

  • I suspect it is, I've not heard anything from them yet, but since I only put the request in yesterday, I'm sure that patience will pay off...

  • If you don't hear from merton let us know. There are a few people here who would offer to help:D

  • Haha i didn't expect so many replies to my story but hey. I ride fixed the guy walked right out in front of me and my body weight was forward so as i switch on the break i go over land on my feet. And as for Hipsters i hate them as much as the next cyclist.

  • Beward Drem, I might be assigned to train you.
