  • That there is pretty much the only power that she theoretically still has....

... most of the disenfranchisement of the populace can be traced back to the Iraq war demonstrations. When the voice of the people was basically ignored... we finally had proof that a government doesn't represent the people at all...

BTW, whatever your link was supposed to go to, the link is broken.

It was from the Jubilee letter from republicans (which was shit IMO)

There was a link to how much the royals cost:

Very good post. It pretty much expanded and explained most of my issues with the Royals - which are systematic tbh rather than personality based.

It's intereting that you brought up the Iraq war. It is my understanding that the legal power to go to war vests soley in the Monarch and is granted to the PM. There is no requirement to go to parliament and the only reason Blair did was for PR.

I find it uncomfortable that we have an unelected upper house, no real head of state with any power, which means we end up with a PM who also acts a the head of state and doesn't even have to be elected by the people.

I'm not nieve enough to think anyone has, or you even can have a "perfect democracy", but ours seems so, so, so far away I cant believe anyone has the balls to claim some sort of superiority over other systems.

  • they're small fry compared to some we're paying for

That doesn't answer the question though.

  • Although I find it hard to be anything other than indifferent about the queen I do think it would be nice if she lasted long enough to break Victoria's record.

6 world titles in the individual sprint?

  • I would never go sloppy seconds to Pisti.

    Never again, anyway.

  • People on this forum actually spent the day in the pissing rain watching a load of boats float down the Thames?!

    Fuck me....

  • They only had a million non forum people with them, least they weren't lonely

  • So where were all the terrorists when you need one? Fuck me, they've only had 60yrs to prepare for it

  • They were watching it on TV because even they're not daft enough to stand in the rain to laugh at the inbreds.

  • Surely a sniper up in one of the flats somewhere on the south side...?

  • A word of warning - read about the Twitter joke trial before saying that sort of thing online these (mind-bendingly stupid) days.

  • We're all being monitored.

  • Besides, snipers are a bit too subtle for the average fundamentalist.

  • We're all being monitored.

Not really, all it takes is one pillock to get overexcited and report something to the police.

  • No. We really are all being monitored. Some poor devil in America is watching this as we contribute.

  • Long live the Queen.

  • Graham Norton?

  • Elton John?

  • Alan Carr?

  • Julian Clary?

  • This really scares me

  • What does? Having a collection of priceless gems and having to wear the same brooch?

  • Why is Josh/SP in that picture with the young Queen?

  • This page needs more party...

  • Why is Josh/SP in that picture with the young Queen?

I'm not that sharp a dresser...

  • What does? Having a collection of priceless gems and having to wear the same brooch?

Perhaps Scoot meant the ageing process .
