My girlfriends dad is a Freemason (also a Morris Dancer but thats a whole different thread). I went to a Masons ball not long ago. I went with an open mind and it turned out to be a pretty good night.
It was all very formal, dinner jacket, meal, etc and alot of standing up and toasting the queen, the hosts, the hosts wife etc. I think they generally do alot for charity and do help each other out with money or favors. Nothing to sinister from what I could work out on face value.
