I once tried to seriously mash a set of ti handlebars (rolled titanium). They were incredibly resilient. I jumped up and down on them, hit them with hammers and rocks and finally with a sledgehammer. I just about managed to split them at the join, I bent them a little and dented them. Eventually though they looked fucked, I reckon if I could have clamped them onto a stem they'd have easily lasted another 1000 miles.
Dunno if that would apply to your tube... I have heard of ti bikes cracking as well. Mebbe a different grade of ti.
