Hi all,
Seems to be a fairly regular problem but I'm looking for a BB for a Peugeot Touriste (Don't know the year but certain it's a french BB I need). Some nutter has done a right botch job on it and bearings are just grinding away inside. Has anyone got any ideas? I'm a bit new to this so any help would be much appreciated.
thanks -

Velo Orange does them.

I’ve looked through every Peugeot catalogue from the 70s to the 90s and I can’t find my bike anywhere. It’s a Peugeot Elan (pic in my previous post) model number PE10N.
It’s as if this bike doesn’t officially exist. lol
Anyone know why? I’m trying to figure out the exact year. Something tells me it’s either 87 o 88.
Hi, I'm new to this, but noticed your post and thought if contribute! I've got myself the same bike-Peugeot Elan, but can't find any info anywhere..! I'm thinking of converting it to single speed/fixed with a flip flop wheel and then flogging it on eBay or on Brick Lane.. I spoke to a guy the other day who said he'd gimme £200 if I converted it.. MENTAL! The frame is a little too big for me, and it's really heavy, so gonna sell it and get a lighter new one for the summer.
Anyway, if anyone has any tips for conversion (never done one myself!), that'd be great. I'm also looking for a cheapish rear flip flop wheel.
Cheers!

Hey,
I'm currently looking for a new crankset for a peugeot fixie conversion but am unable to find anything outside of the States, 44quid sounds like an excellent price, where did you find it?
Cheers!

Hi, new to the forum and working on a conversion. A bit of advice would be much appreciated from any more experienced out there. The bike has ok shimano (adamas ax) double chainrings which can be removed. I'd like to use a smaller chainring, but would I be able to find a smaller chainring to do the job, or will I need a new crankset? Any advice appreciated. Thanks

You should be able to fit a smaller chainring on the same crankset. Measure the BCD first.

Anyone know what model this is?
and whether its likely to have a french or english bb?
-
• #787
They pretty much all have standard English BB for the last 30 years at least

its mid 80s, most probably a low end carbolite model. Does it have a tubing sticker?

...I’m trying to figure out the exact year. Something tells me it’s either 87 o 88.
Pugs often came with (Sachs) Maillard hubs, which use a straightforward week/year date code, ie 21 91 is the 21st week of 1991.
More generally, Sachs bought several French component manufacturers in the early 1980s, so anything starting with Sachs (Sachs Huret, Sachs Maillard etc) will be mid to late 1980s.
Sachs were bought out by Mannesman in 1987, who gradually phased the individual brands out, or sold them on (Huret went to SRAM) and by the early 1990s nearly one hundred years of French cycling history was gone...

@rodabod
sorry for the delay and thanks for your advice. btw does anyone know anything about viscount bottom brackets? I want to change mine but vaguely remember something about threads or sizes being non-standard. Did I invent this?

I won this the other night and should be taking delivery tomorrow. So far I've got a set of Planet-x AL30 D track wheels, some black bar tape, a planet-x fizik arione copy waiting for it. Intentions are for a daily commuter drop barred fixed gear with dirty harry front brake. Photos will follow.

Well I just purchased this frameset for my first build...
The way I set mine is to loosen the stem clamp and rest of the drops as I'd like them to be, and then re-tighten.
