• ^ Isn't everything shut on Sundays in Spain?

    Civilised.

    Exactly. Very civilised indeed.

also contributed to a longer working hours already on top of the longest working hours in Europe.

Shop closed everywhere else around the world, why should London give the impression to the world that shop should be open indefinitely?

Because we're a "24hr" city. If the transport kept running and wasn't filled with axe-murderers after about 12.30pm then fine and dandy, but how the fuck do people get home when the hours run later. At Christmas, we rarely leave the store before midnight having tidied up after the tyre-kickers have fucked finally fucked off after causing utter carnage.

Don't forget siesta too, France the same.

I remember when London used to have shop that closed for lunch.

    I do too.

Only independents close in Spain for siesta. Chain stores will all stay open, even small independents in the larger cities stay open during lunch time these days. Siestas are becoming a thing of the past.

    Sunday's are still sacred though.

Sundays are sacred there because "family" is still considered to be important. Cameron and his performing trick monkey/tea bitch (delete as applicable) rattle on about "Broken Britain" and do less than zero to encourage a society where it's important...

You people make me sick. Why aren't you out shopping, and actually* helping* the economy?

It doesn't help or assist the economy - you just end up with a workforce that detests what it does for a living.
