Bubonic Plays are likely to be dropping out of this, I've managed to double book with a wedding I was sure was a different day :(
-
• #328
I'm planning on using the euro rules, obviously that needs to be ratified by the ukhbpa
-
• #329
Superfly might be out too, Ciaran is moving to Japan during the Euros
-

Well 14 teams is almost small enough we could do round robin
If we start at 9am it's doable, as long as we keep both courts all day, do 10 minute games, quick changeovers, probably do first to five, and drop redundant games at the end.

If I was asked, which I haven't been, I would say use the LHBPA ruleset, as opposed to a ruleset few (if any? did they use the new NAH rules at LA IV?) in this country have used.
I guess unlimited goals is out of the question, as this is a 'serious' tournament.

I see.

Didn't we have 14 last year and manage an RR format comfortably?
-
• #334
Comfortably isn't the word I would use (as the organiser), but yes, it's certainly doable.
The only risk is if we lose one of the courts for a long period of time (we need a good presence there to stop it).
-
• #335
I thought you booked the courts?
-
• #336
Nope. We can reserve them, by being there first, but booking would have cost too much.
They are fine with us keeping them all day.
-
• #337
John, I don't think it's a good idea to start using a rule-set that no-one has yet seen in final form at less than 2 weeks notice.
-
• #338
Well if we have a referee meeting and the rules make sense then I'd be for that, but no... reffing to a new ruleset (if no-one understands it) won't work very well..!
-
• #339
I would be happier if we used the LHBPA ruleset, and had a look at the proposed rules as a group (for those that are interested).
-
• #340
Let's just see what Greg comes up with. It would make sense to use the same rules (so the teams that best play to those rules go through).
Ultimately it's up to the UKHBPA, not us, so talk to Punkture if you want input into that.

Whatever Greg comes up with, I don't think we'll have enough time to absorb & understand the changes. Ideally, we would have had these rules much earlier in the season, so that we could have trialled them at throw-in tourneys and then NS tournaments etc.
If we use these rules, we will have even more uneven reffing than usual, which isn't likely to improve the standard of play.
I don't get the "we should replicate the Euros as much as possible" argument either. If we wanted to replicate the Euros, we would be playing either swiss or seeded groups, followed by double elim.
Don't worry, I will be contacting Ben also.
-
• #342
Well, I don't agree with that line of argument.
There are good reasons for doing more accurate ranking systems. There are also good reasons for trying to simulate the tournament.
But doing one thing different doesn't logically imply we should do everything else differently as well.
But anyway, I will do my best to get the Euros rules off Greg (that may not even happen). I will present those to the UKHBPA, they will make the decision.
-
• #343
I put a little post about this in the UKHBPA thread, don't know if you all agree with it or not, or if the rest of the reps do, I'll try and get people to look at it sooner rather than later.
-
• #344
What are the expected key differences in the rulesets?
-
• #345
No-one knows for sure yet, so we should probably just wait and see.
But my guess would be that Greg will use the NAH v2 ruleset as a guide and edit as he sees fit to create the EHBPC 2012 ruleset, the key (potential) additions would be things like steering/handlebar infractions, toppling, game delay penalties, who the ball is awarded to on game stops, ball-jointing/scooping rules, etc.

• #346
Golden goal(!) rules?
-
• #347
No golden goals (potentially).
-
• #348
No golden goals (potentially).
Means either:
a. no need for golden goals in this tournament, as it's going to be round-robin.
b. Greg and the NAH are going to do away with the golden goal rule altogether, and ties are going to be decided by who has the coolest stickers on their bikes.
c. Greg intends to harmonise the golden goal rules with the NAs, ie stop the game & restart with a charge.
d. none of the above. -
• #349
E. Extra time followed by bike curling/penalties/dice

F. Quadruple check the whistle, check it again, decide, check it again, change your mind, check again, then decide whether it carries on or is a re-joust, which is what I was thinking about. Then check again.
It would be great to use the EHBPC rules at this, if they were out, and we could understand them, however, I wonder whether it might be better if we tried to persuade Brighton to trial them for us.
