I thought naming a price was advisable not obligatory?

From the rules:

Advisory (not rules):

• Update the thread (or close it) when your item has sold and say how much it has sold for.
  
• Put a price in the first post, with ONO (Or Nearest Offer) if you're willing to negotiate.
  This would seem to suggest that should someone wish to ask for offers they can do so. It is a pain, and is much more useful to know what someone is after, but not explicitly against the rules.
