I think I already know the answer but I'd like to ask the question just for confirmation.
My dad just upgraded to a Samsung Galaxy Ace - he thought he was getting an S2. It's much cheaper, he hardly ever uses he phone, but wants a smart phone. He thinks the Ace is slow - I wonder if its just him getting used to the difference between a smartphone and a normal phone.
So the questions are;
1) Is there much difference between the Ace and the S2,
2) If there is, is it something a 65yo would be able to notice,
3) Is it worth him sending it back for something else? Also are there any free apps that you'd recommend that might be fun/useful? I've installed the free version of big launcher to see if it makes life easier.
Cheers.

I thought the ace was crap, my mate has one and I thought it was poor compared to my desire. His contract supplier sold him it on a cheap contract saying it was equivalent to the iphone he had and he was pretty disappointed, he's only paying £8 a month on his contract though so is living with it.

OK... that's sort of helpful. My issue was really whether he needed a topend smart phone.
He had a play with the S2 in the shop and liked it, but he can get very enthusiastic, especially when it comes to anything "state-of-the-art".
The thing is I think my dad is paying more though. I really wish he wouldn't do these things without me.

I got my dad a wildfire S and he's very happy with it. It does everything he needs it to and is probably as quick as the desire is in use...
I know what you mean, they can't be truseted to do these things alone! (:
I think I found the galaxy ace slow compared to the deisre, but I'd probably get used to it over time.
It's up to you really, either let your dad get used to it, or kick off with the company why he tested an S2 and ended up with an Ace?

Yep my mrs has the wildfire s and that thing is great. Screen is too small for me but she's never complained about it or it being slow.

hugo7, there is, huge difference between the Galaxy Ace and the Galaxy S II. Look at the processors, the RAM and available memory, the graphics processor, and the cameras. It is clear how vastly different these phones would be.

One is last years flagship, top of the range phone, that is still one of the best available, the other is a budget piece of crap that looks like the first one so people might buy it.

My sensation seems to getting worse and worse. The random turn off and getting closer and closer, I've been barely able to keep on for 10 minutes this evening. And it keeps freezing then turning off and then the only way to turn it back on is to take the battery out. Any ideas what I can do?

Malaysian, how are you finding the HTC One X, size-wise? I'm guessing that you will take a little while to get accustomed to the bigger screen, but once familiar with it, you would never go back to a small screened phone. Or are you hating it?

Just got a one x too. The screen is pretty amazing it has to be said, massive and yeah it'll probably get used to it pretty quickly. Haven't had a proper look around yet but liking it so far.

Tried a factory reset? If yes, then get a refund/replacement. #amazon #ftw

I'm liking it, a couple of niggles. One is that on the desire I could comfortably browse one handed, nothing was out of reach, whereas now my thumb doesnt always reach. Although the phone is faster, it seems to spend more time loading at certain times, like switching between applications.
I was disappointed that it came with the standard naff HTC earphones, but an important thing for me is that through my decent headphones and earphones, music quality is great. On the desire s there was some distortion on heavy or sustained bass, I didn't realise this was the phone, but with the one x even at full volume bass remains composed.
Still in the moving in stage but I'll say my main reservation about a bigger screen/phone was riding with it in my pocket, both from a comfort point of view and worry of damaging the phone. Seems to be fine on both fronts, I haven't even noticed the difference when its in my pocket.
Also can't think of them now but I've noticed a couple of the niggles with the desire s have been sorted.
And the camera is much improved.
no worries fella. Don't know what it's worth anyway.
