  • "This is a picture of the old Southern Railway Horse Stables as it is today and was originaly the Horse Hospital for the Southern Railway for the Horses that worked out of the Bricklayers Arms Depot it is believed that some 5000 horses worked the Bermondsey area in the height of Horse transport.
The main stable as I remember it was at the junction of Dunton Road and Willow Walk the horses were stablesd here under the care of the Horse master
The main entrance to the Depot was at the junction with Old Kent road and Pages walk with various other entrances in Willow Walk and Dunton Road.
The main goods yard was between Pages walk and St James Road and from St James road onwards was the marshalling yard for arrivals and departures
You can still walk round the stables at Catlin Road"

From this thread on the Bermondsey Boy site. Loads of other pictures and info. on the Bricklayers Arms rail goods depot there too.

30 miles of Saturday morning goodness in the saddle thanks to this thread and Brain Stews' tag.
