At the moment I've personally only rode 32c but with no problem whatsoever. As far as I've searched online people complain of the tire rolling off the seat of the rim any bigger than 35c. According to different charts taking into account the rim width the biggest recommended tire is "37c" for a B43 so pushing it at 40c is possibly the biggest while risking it.
