OK... that's sort of helpful. My issue was really whether he needed a topend smart phone.
He had a play with the S2 in the shop and liked it, but he can get very enthusiastic, especially when it comes to anything "state-of-the-art".
The thing is I think my dad is paying more though. I really wish he wouldn't do these things without me.
