Peugeot budget build

  • I'm going to attempt building my first single speed from this frame

no ideas so far, apart from liking the practicality of bullhorn bars

The frame will probably be repainted or powder coated

Looking for any advice or tips

    cheers

  • I'm no mechanic so no tips from me other than a request to not paint the frame. It looks smart as it is.

  • do you have the original seatpost? i think the bb, seatpost and headset are all odd sizes with the bb and headset having odd french threadings.

  • I have a similar old Peugeot frame converted to single speed and as far as I know the only odd sizing is the seat post, luckily mine came with its original but I think they can be tricky to replace!
I'm with wrongcog on the paint job, looks good to me.

  • no seatpost :(

    I'll have to get looking

    anyone know the size?

  • ... a request to not paint the frame. It looks smart as it is.

    i second that

  • A seatpost is not that hard. Saw a peugeot with a 24.0 seatpost, really tiny haha.

  • Why not keep this pretty paintjob. I like it.

  • its just a bit rusted and tatty

  • Stick nice components on it and it will look ace. Bit of T Cut and it will look great. Not saying you'd be wrong to paint it, but what you have is already nice.

  • It's going to be done on the cheap, obviously I'll try and get the best components I can, most spare cash will be taken up by my Benotto though

  • Instead of painting it invest that money on a decent fork or wheels.
But of course if you want it pink or dislike the current state do it your way.

  • I built up my first SingleSpeed Pug Carbolite with the help of AndyW on here. Took a while as I'm lazy and never did it before. Good place to start though. You don't say what parts you have.
Oh, and I'm with everyone else, don't bother painting the frame, just T-Cut it. I thought about stripping and painting, but it isn't worth it. Anyway, that's a pretty cool paint job.

If my memory serves it's 24.0
When I did a conversion a few years ago I used a 22.2 Chrome BMX micro-adjust post with some beer can shim - I think the seatpost cost ~£8 on ebay - it looks loads better than the commercial alternative (Decathalon at £14.99) (IMHO)...

  • (and +1 for keeping original paint and spending the cash on wheels).

  • Looks good, I can't seem to find a micro adjust seatpost anywhere though

  • I lied - it's actually 23.4 - bang on the size of the Decathalon micro-adjust.

There's more info on Pug-fixing in another thread -

  • I have no parts at all for this, will it be standard wheel size? I've read some are 27

  • 700C will fit I guess.

  • Aaargh! French Thread!!!!!!!! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • A lot of speculation here regarding threads, wheel size, etc. You'll need to check. Later threads are British. Get 700c wheels and deal with the brake drop if it's an issue later.

Personally, I think respraying this frame would be a waste. It's a beater frame, and the cash would be better going elsewhere.

Since it didn't come with forks, check there isn't any front end damage (squint or kinks in the tubes).
