  • Excellent.

And yes, that first photograph is a strong look.

  • Fantastic result - well done to all those who contributed to this detective story, and more importantly for reuniting Ron's wife with the photo's. Very moving...

  • Brilliant outcome.

Clubman you must definitely get to Brooklands and have a look through - there will probably be lots of information that you will interested in.

Yeah, but there won't be anything that he doesn't already know. :)

  • This thread is so full of goodness, I'm going to print it off, fold it in half, put it in an envelope and sleep with it under my pillow!

  • I am the daughter of Albert Derbyshire who was a member of the Calleva & BBAR champion for 3 years. My dad sadly died of a stroke just short of 70 in 1987.he had a lovely orbituary in Cycling Magazine. My Mum has just gone into residential care so I now have his cups medals & lots of cycling magazines going back to the 1930's.

I will in due course sort through the magazines and obviously keep those with articles about my Dad. I see on this thread that Brooklands Museum has a section devoted to the Calleva so I will get in due course get in touch with them. Is there anybody out there that can advise me what to do with all these cycling magazines? I also have lots of black & white photos of various races from the 1940's,& club dinners (some I think would be Middlesex Road Club).

  • I would imagine that 'clubman' on this forum will know what to do with it all.Send him a PM if he doesnt post on here before...

certainly dont throw those away, they would be fascinating viewing for cycling enthusiasts everywhere...

    also check these people: http://www.cyclemuseum.org.uk/

    .

Perhaps this material should go to the Brooklands archive, but I think the Veteran Cycle Club should be considered.

I'm keen to see what there is, and so is at least one of my ex-Calleva contacts. I've just spoken to him, and he tells me that he had not been out on his bike today because of the bad weather. However he had done 40 minutes on his turbo. He is 87.

  • Hello

  • Hello

I'm Lesley Wysom (Carrot) and we were wondering if amongst the information/pictures of your father, Albert Derbyshire you may have some of Ron Wysom (his picture is on the Calleva thread) please.

LGFSS Members helped so much in finding these three pictures for us and some written info at Brooklands. Do 'lodge' your all you have with them to help future researchers. Many thanks

    Lesley & Carolyn

  • Hi,

I stumbled across this thread a few weeks ago. My granfather, Albert Ashby, was a member of the Calleva road club in the 1940s. Sadly he died in the mid 1970's, so I didn't get the chance to know him. My mother recalls many stories of his cycling exploits, but has very little in the way of photographs, etc. She did manage to find these two photos though. One is of a club dinner which she guesses must date from the late 1940's or early 50s. The other picture probably taken at the same event shows my grandfather pictured in the centre.

I am also a very keen time triallist like my grandfather....it must be in the genes!

    Hope these are of interest.

    Hi,

My Dad was in the Calleva road club and friends with Albert Ashley... I remember visiting him in the early 1970's when I was very young. I have some old photos of my Dad's from those days if anyone is interested... and would love to hear from anyone that has photo's that include my Dad (Lesley Dunster).

  • Your father is in the picture of the dinner party.....fourth row back, third from the end with his hand on his chin, sitting next to our father Albert Ashby, and our Mother.
Would love to make contact, but struggling with this system....Too old !?
    Will keep trying.

  • Keith, you're still in the Nursery. Have a look here to see how it works:

    http://www.lfgss.com/thread9350.html

You can probably PM Velocio asking you to be released earlier if you can't find opportunities for other posts.

Good luck, it's great when these contacts happen on here.

  • Many Many thanks Oliver.....I am just a 62 year old in the nursery....having dipped in for a quick look, I still have a lot to learn, but am impressed with the setup.....genuine people only !
Going back in to learn more......

  • Welcome to the forum. :)

  • Well it says I'm out of the nursery having posted 3 times, so this will be my third post, so hope it works......need to make contact with Les Dunsters daughter direct if at all possible.

  • There's also a little time lag, 24 hours.

  • Yep, just going to say that I think tomorrow I'll get what I want.
    Superb if I get the result....important !
Les and Una Dunster were special to our family.
    Many thanks !

  • When I was first starting out as a cyclist, back in the early 1990s, there was a small, but very active, Calleva RT (Racing Team) based in west Berkshire/North Hampshire. I don't recall any of the riders who rode for it, but seem to remember that it was quite a select team.

I raced throughout the 80t's and remember them as Calleva CRC, top rider was Steve Cook .

  • I'm new to all this, just want to know if I am communicating with Les and Unas daughter direct, or the wider world.
Hoping for a private link with Ms Dunster for a private interchange.

  • Click on their username and then 'send private message'.

  • What a lovely thread to stumble across
