Crikey. I never knew it was two roads, I've always just cycled away until I've run out of hill. :)
Indeed, Derbyshire's premiere bus shelter* is just a little further up, it'll face you as you near the end of Rutland Street. You were close!
.
Damn. Next time.

Would be interested in some rides, getting a bit bored of south Manchester. Just need to pick up a smaller chainring first!

What a lot of fun that was! Nice to meet you both, lovely riding with you. Brilliant ride, Winnats Pass was great fun, totally worth it. Well judged cafe stop before the ascent, and a well judged pub stop after just in time for the Boat Race. Thank you!
Snow, what snow?
All that cyclo-cross training came in handy
Two wheels good, four wheels bad. Stuck Porsche.

What a fantastic day - thank you so much TSK and soon-to-be Mrs TSK. So glad to have conquered Winnats - and with such great company.

Can't believe there's still snow in the peaks.
Looks like an incredible ride.

That was a great day out. Trep (the soon to be Mrs TSK) has been recovering from a nasty cold so we called off the starting ride over to Matlock and drove instead. It was soon discovered that we'd not loaded a water bottle each and I had forgotten my gloves so we popped into Stanley Fearns Cycles, which it turns out is one of the finest LBS' in the land.
Met up with KT Bee and oat44 in Matlock Park and then I grudgingly lead them up the A6. I would have considered an alternative but other routes would probably have rendered the ride a bit too long and hilly.
A turn off at Rowsley led us through the Chatsworth Estate and up to Pilsley before heading though the old lead mining town of Hassop. We stopped briefly at Outside in Calver for coffee and cake before rolling through Grindleford to Hathersage and up the Hope Valley to Winnats Pass.
Everyone put in a rather sterling effort here except for me when I developed what I thought to be a stitch and had to do a bit of stopping. A short descent pack into Castleton brought the lesson that front jersey pockets should remain zipped when in motion to prevent people riding over your chocolate and money.
The haul up Peveril Hill was far easier and afforded lovely views of the Hope Valley, neatly defined in patches of snow from earlier in the week. At the top some muppet had grounded his Porshe on a snowdrift and ripped a few pieces from the undercarriage. The rescue SUV wasn't achieving much other than wearing down his clutch.
We rolled on amused as we headed to the Queen Anne in Great Hucklow for a late lunch and caught then end of the Oxford Cambridge boat race. A nice tailwind then carried us for a bit of descending practice through Eyam and Stoney Middleton as far as Calver and back the way we came. -

@eyebrows - Come out with us next time (snow not guaranteed).
12th May Fixed Gear Special.
Chesterfield, Bakewell, Monsal Trail, High Peak Trail, Matlock, Chesterfield.
There will be some ascending and descending involved so personally reccomend 65" and a front brake if fixed. -

getting to London is a bit difficult for me
It's possible - took me around 15 hours from Whaley Bridge to Cockfosters :)

yup, I learnt the hard way. Retrieving £5 and £10 notes flying about in the road was a fun game, but I think I'll zip up next time.
15 hours each way? No excuse ;)

One thing I learnt was that there is an excellent, not-too-hilly way out of the Peaks going south.
If you head from Whaley to Buxton, then Hindlow
B5053 Buxton Rd
thru Longnor
left off the B5053 past Marsh Head
onto B5054
R at Hulme End
R again towards The Dale
then, just follow the Manifold Valley all the way to the A523
L onto the A523
R onto Common Lane
Dale Lane to the A52
R onto A52
L onto a lovely little road through the fields, and it's downhill all the way to London (sorta)The Manifold valley was frosty and f'in' freezing at 7am before the sun reached the bottom of it.

I think I know where you mean - it is beautiful round there - I rode through the Manifold Valley and over to the Roaches at Christmas.

The Monsal Head climb (a classic of the hill climb calendar) isn't on the route per se but as we'll be going close enough to it then people can give it a shot if they want to.

As no interest has been shown, I'm going to shelve this and do something else instead. If anyone is interested in heading out at some time to do this route or go somewhere else in the Peak District then let me know and I'll see what I can sort out for you.

Give me about a month, and I'll start to take you up on the offer- me and a friend are keen for some Peak riding- even contemplating making a camping base with some other friends and heading off for a few days.
At the moment we're both stuck with revision. -

Providing I can get time off work I'll be up for these rides.
I live in bolsover and have only ever seen 1 fixed rider (other than my mate) riding in Chesterfield.
Where abouts do you live?

I live in Walkley in Sheffield but a fixed wheel start from here is a bit of kicker. Seen a couple of people on fixed in Chesterfield when I was working there.

Can those in Sheffield and surrounding areas please keep an eye out or a dawes super galaxy tandem that was stolen from meersbrook yesterday. navy blue, with blue/green splash bar tape, long nitto technomic stem, rolls saddle, thorn crankset.
Any ideas where they might think of selling this on apart from ebay/gumtree etc?
Thanks

a mate was telling me about the NT place at Wetton (top of Manifold valley) you have to go thru a tunnel to get to and the roads leading to there are pretty much carless, sounds great.
Great - see you at 11.
